Every Farm Table has a Story to Tell~

I took these pictures of my kitchen table back a few months ago.
I was just GOOFING OFF with the camera really.

It's a Farmtable. Tapered -legs. Lopped-off corners. Very light pine wood.
Honey bought the wood at the Flea-market, the man told him it was from Arkansas;
and I don't know that you can see it; but it is full of WORM TRACKS!
...and dents and dings from school work and projects.

But I love this table so... I just started clicking.
My husband MADE this table (He and my children) in September 1999. The week of the 13th thru the 19th
He took off work that week to care for our children--
We home schooled and so they were always home with me.
Except this week.
 I was at the hospital.
That is the week my Momma passed away.
She never sat at this table.
But you see, she is still a part of the memories
that have been made around this table.

From the Depths of my Draft File

You remember when I  put the TV inside the cabinet
AND I moved the doors up, RIGHT?
AND!!! I got rid of all the video tapes?

Well, I think it was around that time:
I was given a box of knobs, drawer pulls and hinges--- so I scrounged and found these

Painted them and added them to the doors-- they are purely decorative as the hinges I had worked just fine.

Well, just the other day-- I decided to slap some white paint on this bad-boy ET center!  (only the parts that peek through, cause that's how I do it!)
I'm also trying to decide ...
Basket?
Or
Decoupaged Box?                          They still need cutsie little labels.

Oh... and I threw down my FREE-CYCLE stinky rug and have been SHOWERING IT WITH BAKING SODA  2 times a week... I don't notice it stinkin' anymore. YAY!   I could be used to it.  But I don't have the headaches it gave me at first.  So, that's good right?

SO, WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR que waiting to be edited, photo-graphed, and put the finishing touches on, to PUBLISHING it?

God Bless you
and
Thanks for Reading?

WORSHIP GOD IN PRAYER TODAY

One of God's Warriors : David Wilkerson

David Wilkerson was  killed in a car accident here in Texas yesterday.
The article said it was on Hwy 175-- this highway runs near our home. It is the corridor we drive to get to Dallas  or East to Athens and Tyler. The accident occurred further Southeast of us past Athens  according to this Washington Post  article.

His wife was with him.
I'm praying for his family.

I'm also praying for the people that lost family members in the storms last night that ripped through the south. We're waiting to hear from relatives in Dallas, Ga.
(was Dallas, Ga hit by this fierce storm?  Anyone know?)

Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. -- Job 1:20-22

I pray that if you read this today-- that you would join me and
WORSHIP GOD IN PRAYER TODAY.

God bless you and Thanks for reading.

Ever Have one of those days: Where have I been ?

Hidin'
In a Hole!

At first I was hidin' with just me and my little Aubree.

Then the youngest daughter showed up with her hubby and two boys.
The door opened and in walks my son- in law WITH A CHIHUAHUA...YES!
I'm thinking "Whew! I'm so glad you made it... "

By the time the second wave of bad weather is coming...
My dad and my nephew have arrived.
I'm thinking, " Is it me or is it hot in here?"

My Honey and
2nd SIL  and
Youngest Brother--
get home in between the 2nd and Last wave of Tornado Warnings to roll through our area...
I'm thinking, "That's 11 people---!!!"

I felt like I was in an episode of HAPPY DAYS!

Now I'm just thinking,
"Thank The Lord! that's over...
AND GOD SPARED OUR FAMILY!!!"

God Bless you
and Thanks a bunch for reading!

Good to the Last Drop!

I took pictures around the Potager on Friday-- and then again on Monday, today- (Between 4-22 and 4-25 of 2011). I thought I'd show what a tremendous difference a little DRINK AND a little rain make!
 Squash on Friday 4-22-11
Squash on Monday 4-25-11  I know this is a tab bit closer... but it is full of blooms now.

Tomatoes on the Hugelbeet on Friday... (the 3 plants horizontally; almost mid photo)
Tomatoes today, much fuller and having blooms as well.

Another shot of the Hugelbeet.  I took this photo because  the cucumbers and cantaloupe on this side are so much smaller than the other side of the Hugelbeet.
See for yourself...
Even the weeds grow better on this side!

 Green beans... Friday.
Green beans ...TODAY!  actually no beans yet, but some little blossoms.

 Corn on Friday...
Corn...today.

So bear in mind. I didn't stand in the same spot and take these pictures from the same angle and all that, ...because I'm not a photographer.  I didn't check the lighting... and I know there is a trick that GREAT photographers and HUNTERS know that ...when you take a picture of something in the fore ground... It looks way BIGGER than in real life.  But, I have no idea how to do that.

I have learned though- that if you give your garden plenty of  THIS TO DRINK...
MANURE 'T'...blech.
And!  a little bit a rain that we got over the weekend. (the weather man called it spotty showers) Your plants WILL grow WHILE  your watching...Well, it ALMOST seems that way!

THEN ... there is this. Is this what you call a dandelion? Is this what turns to little puffs of seed that we (as children) blow and make a wish?
Is this something you can eat? Because I know I recently read a blogger's recipe for Fried Dandelion (flowers)
Now, My momma always said you could eat this, and that the settlers ate while driving west... but I never saw my Momma eat it. But, then maybe she didn't have a recipe.
She passed away before she ever had a computer.  So, that could be the reason I never saw her prepare this and eat-- but I tell you, if she KNEW HOW TO DO IT... I wouldn't have put it past her TO DO IT.

So tell me, what do you know about Dandelions?

And... while you're at it, do you use  MANURE T on your garden?

linking to the Barn Hop, don't forget to go and check out some great links especially if you've gotten the gardening 'bug'... or chicken 'bug' or ... whatever grabs you... LOL!

The Resurrection~

We cannot comprehend the magnitude of the gift of Christ's death on the cross- without God giving us comprehension.
and We cannot begin to have faith without God violently coming after us and giving us First Faith, then Grace and now Mercy to save us from what we SO DESERVE.

He had to Die.

So that you (and I)
don't get what we deserve.

For this reason the Resurrection by the Power of God had to happen to seal our Faith-- and give us Hope.
We hope in something we do not understand and cannot explain--
otherwise it would NOT be Hope at all-

For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Romans 8:24-25

God bless you; and Thanks for reading!

Red Thread~

Before my family came to stay for a visit I was looking for these.
(not mine, but very similar)

I had some thread I wanted to use for dish cloths.
Lots and lots of red. I'm not a 'red' person by nature...but more and more I'm drawn to it. Especially in my kitchen.  I had some remnants of thread too... variegated yellow, orange, and some that closely resembles blue jean (which I love and can't remember where I bought it years ago...)

This is what I came up with about 8 new dish clothes in all!
They're too pretty to wash dishes with, in my opinion.
But,  they DO put a smile on my face while washing!
"Bowl full of Dish cloths"
This simple little bowl of cloths  make a cheerful assortment, don't they?

Do you have a simple little something that puts a smile on your face while doing your daily routine?

Decorating for Easter

All year long.

God Bless You this Resurrection Week.
Thanks for Reading.

Tour de Hutch~

Yesterday, I showed you my newly acquired Hutch~
I told you today I'd show you some of it's contents.  I just had no idea what to put inside one of these... I don't know that I own anything 'Hutch-Worthy'

Just so you know~ it will probably get changed out periodically.
 His and Hers.
Father in laws Flag given to my Mother in law when he passed.  Her Bible.
Silver, Crystal and Crocheted doilies. My Great Grandmothers things.
Cut lace napkin, with finger bowls (?) and pill box.

I tried to get a better picture of the pill box~ it has a little tiny mosiac on top of the silver box.

Red Frog-- vintage flower vase. This frog makes me think of my Father in law.  It was his and sat on his desk, then in his bathroom --- I love it.

That's it...

There are a few other items... but these are the HI-LIGHTS

God Bless you
and
Thanks for reading!

Recently Acquired...

These are some items that have been recently acquired by me... Some have yet to be repurposed.
Like THESE....
These 3 shutters were brought home from work by my son in law... they were floor displays and they were headed to the dumpster. He said " I figured you'd find something to do with them."  Such a sweet young man... knows how to get to his MIL heart!  ...smile...
They are framed and hinged and they OPEN!  So... cool. No. I haven't a clue... how 'bout you?  Any ideas?

The two little baskets I bought the day we went TRAILER SHOPPING.  Just so happens the young man we bought the trailer from was living in his parents garage apartment.  They were having a GARAGE SALE ... in the Garage~ I shopped while we were waiting for him to come down. I got 3 baskets in all and only spent $1.50. My kind of baskets.
They all help corral junk on the counter ; this chicken basket, too.  I think I'll be gathering eggs in this baby as it has soft 'chicken wire' sides ...won't jostle the eggs to much!

Recently,  I mentioned that I received my Great Grandmother's Hutch... and how it came to be mine! Yay!  I was so happy. You can read about it here.
I finally got around to putting some junk inside. Well, then I had to rearrange the wall behind it and move pictures and shelves ... I'll show you tomorrow what's inside. (you know, give you a tour of the hutch)

YES! There is a balloon in the photo. That is to draw attention to the dust on my FLOOR!  Just so you wouldn't miss it. I guess I could have written my name in the dust; but balloons are way more fun!

Honey has been working part time with Son in law #1 ...
and as I mentioned last week we have house guests... My brother, nephew and my Dad... all still here.

I've been super busy. I hope to get some posts together this weekend.
Y'all know how it is.... slow goes it.

In the mean time~
God Bless you, this Resurrection Week.
and
Thanks a bunch for reading.

Q & A regarding my Chickens and Coop?

First the formalities.
I'm adding this post here.

Now on with the Q & A
Actually, I'm showing and telling... and all these Questions are some that I have for all of you knowledgeable CHICKEN WRANGLERS.
1. What do you call yourself? (those of you that raise chickens?)

This is the ladder/ steps/ ramp for our chicken coop. When last I showed you... we'd not gotten this far.
These are 1x4 boards screwed to a 1/4 inch plywood with 2x2 frame on the back for strength.
2. Will these 'steps' be to big for my chickens?

We used some old brown paint we had to paint the whole thing.
It is sort of watered down... so it went on more like a stain.  It is latex and cleans up with water.
We painted the inside --just in order to give it a layer of protection; when cleaning.  It is OSB...? particle board siding. The paint side is down for protection from moisture outside.
3. Do you think paint is enough? I know this has to be cleaned periodically; Do you think some cheap linoleum would be better?

This is the front access door. For cleaning out the chicken coop.

4. I don't have any questions about this aspect. Unless you have something to offer?

Below is one of the ends.
This is open and will be covered I think with Chicken wire in warmer months and plywood in cooler months...

5. Do chickens lay well if they are not in an enclosed unit?
Would they do better if this part were closed off? Kind of like a
Chick-Cave?

I live in East Texas (north east) ...although we are South East of Dallas? (make sense) ...Anyway. My point is...it gets really warm here. So I wanted there to be a breeze and good ventilation. But, I don't want them to feel vulnerable. That is why I asked Q # 5

This is the handle on the ''egg access" door. I don't know any terminology or Chicken Lingo... so bear with me. To the left is a hook and eye for latching...see it isn't latched. In moving this thing around I noticed it 'UNLATCHED' fairly easy.

6. What is the best type of latch? A slide bolt, perhaps?
This is too high up for dogs. But, children and raccoons are the most mischievous (spell checker didn't know how to spell that either by the way) of all creatures around these parts.

This is just a shot of the door open
(so you could see how I cannot cut a straight line with the skill saw! LOL)
 I don't think I have a Q here either. Except maybe:
7. Do all chickens lay at the same time? Do I just need to watch and gather eggs throughout the day? or I guess I'll know when the time comes? Kind of like when I had my own children, Huh?

There are six boxes inside.
Oh! 8. Do they have to have a divider between the laying boxes?
Do Little Hens Like their privacy?

TA-DA!
the coop is finished!
All we need now is to fence it in-- So the little chickens can have a scratch yard.
Or whatever it is called.

9. What do you think?

10. Do you have any answers for me?

11. Are you tired of me asking questions?

No really,  These are all questions that I've had. I read all the different homesteaders and backyard chicken raisers (or whatever you're called)  and I'm learning bunches.
For instance today, I read and watched about trimming or clipping the chickens wings so they can't fly.
That will probably be necessary.
12. Don't you think?   LOL...just kidding.

That's all for now.

God Bless you and Thanks for Reading!
