:: A Glimpse of this week 7.7-7.13 and A Past Project ::

This week we've had some pretty HOT DAYS (triple digits); I haven't felt very good so I didn't get much done around here...just the usual chores. No special projects.  I haven't blogged much only visited around.

It has been so hot... and I had my keets (Guinea chicks) put up on the porch in the kennel... two of them died.  I wasn't happy about that. They weren't  quite big enough for the tractor. They've grown some now and we have them out under the shade tree now. I think they are doing much better.

Today,  besides their drinking water... I wet the ground around them inside and outside the tractor and they were flapping their wings and cooling down... they enjoyed it!  We have 8 now. I'm hoping we don't lose anymore.

I wasn't the only one under the weather... Buster was not doing so well either.

He went off his feed for about 3 days  and lost his appetite and wouldn't eat. He is a growing PUP...he can't afford to not eat!  He was taking water...but got really weak and could barely stand up. I wasn't sure he was going to make it. But he's made a complete turn around and is back to his normal self.  It was kind of scary there for a few days.  We changed back to our previous feed and he and Trouble are eating better.  Dogs are picky eaters!

I've been playing around with my Viking sewing machine. Mainly just getting the feel for it.  I'm waiting for an order for proper bobbins and machine needles to come in so I can practice sewing heavier fabric with it.  In the mean time I've just been playing with some swatches.  I haven't made anything substantial with it yet.

But a couple of weeks ago... I found this bag on Pinterest and
I recently copied it from my ::SEWING:: board... using my Elna machine.
Free Japanese Knot Bag Sewing Tutorial & Pattern

I used some Tinker Belle fabric from a pair of flannel pajama pants I bought in the mark down bin at the thrift store. They were a quarter.  I made this little bag for Bree (my grand-daughter)

I didn't make or downloaded any pattern...I just 'eye-balled it'!  ...you can see she filled it with other Tinker Belle items...she loves it!   give a girl .25¢  and  a little free time...and Oma gets to play on her sewing machine!

I hope where ever you are today... you're able to enjoy pleasant weather, stay cool and are out of harms way.

And let us not grow weary in well doing for in due season we will reap if we faint not. ~Galatians 6:9

I don't know how you can stand that heat.
I hope you don't lose any more guineas from it!

I hope you get to feeling better.

Hi, I'm Oma too. :) While flying to Germany for our first grandchilds birth I sat next to an older German lady who told me about her grandkids always asking her "Oma, can you make me this or that?" I thought how sweet that sounded and since our first was born there it would be nice to have them call me that. And sounding so simple, surely it wouldn't take long before I'd hear it. Well... with all but 1 of our 5 grandchildren, Oma was the last word they learned I think. lol Anyway, the other part of my wish did happen. All 5 have asked me numerous times to make them something. The last was a pillow for each one. One of the older grandsons gave me a favorite hoodie and said "just surprise me by making something with this". After the others saw it, they each brought me one so they could have a pillow too. They turned out really cute and they love them. :)

I'm glad Buster is doing better now. Cute bag! I like how it self closes without a zipper or snaps.

You always bless my grandmother heart! Recently I decided to make a dress for my granddaughter's first birthday. I used a lovely dress that her mother, my daughter, and I had both worn. I used the dress hem and cut down the skirt and then used some of the rest of the dress material to cut out the rest of the pattern. Alas, as often is the case with my attempts at sewing, I sewed some pieces together incorrectly. As I was doing all this by hand, not machine, the prospect of redoing everything was overwhelming. So I considered how my resourceful friends might remedy the situation and after cutting off the bodice section, I just attached the handmade skirt to an inexpensive purchased top and finally completed my project. You would be proud of me!

Well... that's a good save! I bet it was so cute too. Little girls are so easy to sew for.
I haven't made much for my grandsons in the way of clothes...but they love having costumes to dress up in and run around the yard like SUPER HEROES!
VIKINGS... OR FIREMEN!
