I Talk a BIG Game--

A the LORD God Knows it.

IMG_4086

“Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."

You might very well know where this is going…

You might also remember the sage advice I received at the onset of the summer break…  something like … PLAN YOUR SUMMER, DON’T LET IT COME AND GO… with regrets… blah, blah, blah… YES! Good advice and you can read all about my intentional summer planning here  -- by the way, I still think it’s good advice.

However, all the plans in the world aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on if you don’t do something with it—OR!  Plan properly.

I can say I’m going to do this or that… but unless I’ve prayed and asked God his direction, it’s really just an idea. Not much to it.

IMG_5913

“Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.

Of course, there is also, the unexpected illness that tends to throw a wrench into the works too.  Don’t get me wrong—I’m not thrilled about the way things are going with my health at the moment. However, I do believe, that the LORD will slow us down from time to time—causing us to REST in Him and take into account our daily lives. Making the most of how we walk… not becoming tied down with counting the days so much as weighing the intent of our hearts.

IMG_4087

“Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."

So, while I’d planned on getting it all done , this summer and while I’d made a LARGER-THAN- LIFE-TO –DO LIST… I’m really, concentrating on what’s important.

Rekindled relationships. Family.

Restoration, both in the physical and the spiritual.

Realistic Expectations—living each day as it is given.

Resting in finding Truth and Loving my Lord--

‘Til Next Time, Be blessed.

Tidings of Joy!

Dear Reader:
I hope that you know true peace comes NOT from gifts or monetary things, but that you experience peace and joy that comes from God above. I am always humbled by each and every one of you that reads and comments here at Corn in my Coffee-Pot.  I have loved getting to know you through the years and appreciate your friendship. I pray that you have a very Merry Christmas!

Warmly yours, Patricia

The grace of the LORD Jesus Christ be with your spirit. ~Philippians 4:23

Bitter Sweet News

It brings me sadness to tell you that our beloved Cee-Kay from ‘thinking of home  passed away on Sunday.

It gives me great joy to know that she

Is HOME with her LORD and Savior.

She had a great faith. A wonderful sense of humor and adventure.  She will be greatly missed in the blogging community.

Putting Down Roots

I came to the sink the other day—and my husband had arranged a few cuttings into this glass jelly jar and set it in the window. I rested the smiley face rock against the glass (otherwise he just smiles up at the florescent bulb above the sink)  … that’s how it made me feel to see those cuttings, in that glass JAR, on THAT window sill.

happy.

putting down roots

I haven’t written much these days on the move. Believe me, I have much to say on the matter. There is a time and a place for everything—now is not the time say everything.

To tell the whole story HERE-- well, this probably isn’t the place either.

Tiny house- siding and roofing

Recently, I posted a photo of our oldest son’s Tiny-House progress on Instagram, and I’ve opened emails and I’ve even had some texts—inquiring about the move.

I don’t know what to say except; I thought for sure this was it.  I thought for sure this time we’d be moving. I don’t like when that happens—when I speak out of turn.

For now—know WE ARE STAYINGWhatever plans we had, were just that—our plans.  Evidently, God has other plans.  He had plans when He brought us here; I remember that!  I loved the country but at the same time—felt so alone and very much a stranger. We put down roots; a long time ago.

We will stay here on this little piece of earth, in this little community, in our little country cottage. PLANTED.

happy.

Right in between—three grandsons (and THEIR parents) on one-side and Tiny House builder on the other.

Until He moves us again.

Til next time-

Patricia

:: Bless the LORD, My birthday week-

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
            And forget none of His benefits;
~ Psalm 103:1-2

As it is my birthday week I thought I'd take some liberties in my posts this week…
Well the next 5 days.

I've had lots on my mind the past six months or so... And I've made no bones about the fact that turning 50,  not only has my attention and been a distraction; it’s also been quite bothersome for me!

I only know of 2 other birthdays that captured my attention so well.  The first being my 18th birthday!
I remember crying when I was about to be 18 years old. Thinking that somehow at that age I'd be thrust into the world with nothing but the shirt on my back -- and all the responsibility you could imagine would bear down upon my shoulders.
And I would crumple under the weight of it.

Silly?  Maybe.
Of course I was young- and quite full of myself. I think we all know someone that comes of age and knows what they're doing, how they're going to do it and with whom it will be done…

and with what level of energy and gusto!

I am NOT that person.

I'm here just days before my fiftieth birthday-- and still don't know the answers to SOME of those questions!

So yes, I’ve been mope-y and not looking forward to my birthday.  I’ve thought about lots of different aspects of my life. Things that have changed for me.  The first thing being the Type 2 diabetes diagnosis I was given last June— not long after I turned 49.  It was not a happy time for me.  I’ve thought about (and still it’s on my mind) … our home.  Whether we will get to live here for very much longer.  I’ve thought about mortality on so many levels, mine, my husbands, my dads… even my kids.  I know there are some, that have buried a child-  My own son has been through it.  It’s earth shattering. We shouldn’t have to think about that. The biggest change hasn’t happened recently… it’s been gradual over a few years—and that is my focus.

I’ve taken my eyes off Jesus.

The other day—a revelation came to me. Something I’d forgotten—and that is I’m not the center of my universe; and when I am—the LORD is not.

I’ve forgotten His benefits.

…to the point of questioning myself.  Would I praise Him if there were no benefits?   I would hope so.

This week—and every week. But especially this week—I think it’s important to Praise His Holy name.

In doing so--  MY SOUL WILL BLESS THE LORD.

Turning 50 seems so INSIGNIFICANT now

‘Til next time, Bless the LORD~

:: We’re in Limbo and Limbo ain’t Pretty!

When it came time to work in the front bedroom—I knew I didn’t want to just go back the way it has always been; you know,  slapping some paint on the walls, putting the furniture back and be done with it.  I wanted to put my own touches on this room. At the same time, we have the move to consider.

However,  at the time I was working on the bedroom—the move was out and we were waiting for an appraisal and getting refinancing, instead.  Currently, we are in limbo about the house.

Let me back up just a bit and explain.  I told you back before the holidays, as far back as Thanksgiving I think—we were finally agreeing it was time to move. Since then—it has been an up and down roller coaster.  Getting the house ready to sell. Then, out of the clear blue we talked with about getting refinancing.

It looked like that would be the way we’d go instead. We filled out the paper work, got approved for the refinancing and had an appraisal on the books—waiting for the appraiser.  That day, he never showed. I called to find out where he was, perhaps lost, or just running late… what?

He told me it was canceled and to call the finance office. That is when I found out.  The refinance was off the table. The air let out of my balloon with a big bang!  Not the floating, spitting and sputtering type of balloon that flies around in a funny sort of way.  No.

BANG!

This all happened in the past 10 days. Now… I haven’t done a thing. I’ve not scrambled to find another route to take.  I’ve not screamed, cried or stomped my feet.  Oh no… wait.  There was that hour, same day—where I went to bed and cried!

Waaaaahhhhh!!!!!  just like a baby.  I forgot about that. In fact, let’s all forget about that.  It didn’t do a lick of good.  I did NOT get my way. For once in my life, I truly don’t know what we’re going to do…about any of this.

My emotions are wrung out… like a cold wet sloppy rag, if I can say so.

I’m trusting the LORD. At a time when everything within me wants to DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING. TO MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN AND MAKE OUR FINANCIAL SITUATION BETTER. I am taking my moments with my family.  I’m holding babies.  I’m crocheting. Tending chickens… normal stuff. I’m making a mortgage payment at a time in life when, honestly, I thought we’d be done with it by now.

So that… in a nut shell, is why I’ve not blogged much lately.  It is hard to put on a happy face, when you’re not happy.  It’s hard to sit down and put into words how I really feel.  I don’t care much for the sugar coating.

I want to share this little statue of Emmett Kelly,Jr… the wine-o.   I’m not sure if that’s the name of this figure.  But, he’s got a bottle in the hand. He looks destitute.  I found him while working in the front bedroom in a box. I took him out and put him on display…because HE is my style. (more on that later too)

020

I was given this my senior year in high-school.  By the mother of my best friend.  I kept it for years because it reminded me of her. Every time I see it I think of her. I still think of her.

But now, I keep it because it reminds me of something deeper. It reminds me that no matter how bad things get—no matter the circumstances. Whether the bottom is a bottle or if your rock bottom is something else…Like wrung out emotions and cold wet sloppy rags… God will find you.  Seek Him.

We aren’t promised tomorrow.  But if you are so gracious to wake up and have a tomorrow—it’s because He made it so and tomorrow He’ll be there too.

‘Til next time, Be Blessed~ and stay warm!

:: The Truth is…

I fret a little.
I worry about things to come …and things that may not.
I cause myself to doubt---
I run ahead.
Sometimes I make a RUSH decision—and the outcome isn’t good.
All I have thought about since I’ve begun to get stronger--- is packing and moving.
Getting the burden of debt off ones shoulders is a huge relief.  I want relief.
Since returning from Arkansas and our trip away--- I can think of nothing else.
With the girls—I am anticipating 2 new grandbabies.  Grandbabies that I may not get to see grow and flourish or take their first steps; up close; like I’ve done with the other 6 kiddos.
It all weighs heavy in my heart.
Finance.
Family.
Faith.
…Not always in that order.

Today I read this scripture… and it SPOKE VOLUMES TO the weightiness of my heart.
I wanted to share it with you.

ERBIE TRAIL verse

Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. ~ Psalm 37: 3-5
For me- just reading it and meditating on these words,  has CULTIVATED FAITHFULNESS.  I feel stronger already!
A RELIEF!  ;)
Have a blessed start to a new week my friend!
‘Til next time, Be Blessed!

:: Observing ::

I woke up this morning with the cattle lowing in the back pasture. They sounded distant yet echoe-y.
(yes, I just made that up…someone notify the spell-check minions)
As I lay in bed listening to the sounds of the morning; and George, crowing his wake up call—I heard the cattle again.
Only it didn’t sound so distant.
Or Echoe-y …there it is again, the word, the cow.
I got up and made my way to bathroom—pulled up the blind and had a peek out the window.
There it was---  FOG.
I could make out the shapes of the cattle in the field next door. NEXT DOOR?! what?
cows 2 june 2013

That can’t be right. Why is there a herd of cows in Ms. Betty’s pasture?
I just love it here you know?  Never a dull moment.

By the time we got dressed and headed that way, Ms. Betty decided to leave early for church—she stopped the car to tell TH that she was afraid if she

“didn't get in the car to leave now, the stray cows would be up under my car port and at my sliding glass door again” ~Ms. Betty

(this isn’t the first time a cow has been where it shouldn’t be); so she decided to just leave. Basically, she bugged-out!  Hehehehe!

That’s ok. We took care of it. We called the County and they got a hold of the man who owns the cows and the property behind us… (he didn’t always, so we had no way of contacting him; but I made sure and got his number today)

We ‘cow-sat’ until he got here.  All he needed was a bucket of something to shake at them and they just followed him right back the way they came… funny, I grew up in a country setting and the Metropolis grew up around me and before I turned 18 I was living in a suburban area.
Here—it was country when we got to this house. It’s still country.

But sometimes I don’t FEEL like I LIVE a country life. I feel like I have “ a house in the country” …and I’m just observing.

So like many things in my life lately… I’m just observing.

I haven’t blogged much lately –but I am observing you, my readers and followers.  I have popped in from time to time to see how you all are doing.
I have a blog in the world wide web—I just haven’t been blogging. But I am observing.
Am I leaving?
Like Ms. Betty—am I going to grab my bug-out bag and leave blogging before something bigger comes along and impedes my efforts?

No probably not.  For now, I’m just going to leave some of the blogging matters up to you.  I will read and visit around and go about my way…observing. I’m going to take some time to read  leisurely and study for spiritual growth. Spend some time with the LORD and observe.  I think I’m going to fill my bucket.
When I have something to shout out or share…
You’ll see me in your mail box …OR in your feed…
I’ll be there ...shaking a bucket
… hopefully, you’ll come meandering your way back.
Hopefully, I’ll have something worth while to share!

Til next time, Be Blessed!

:: Christmas Present ::

I’ve been thinking about you.
I’ve been thinking about writing and sharing some of what’s going on here in my home, in my life…in my mind this holiday season.
Every time I sit down at the computer to write…
nothing comes.
Not because I have nothing to say…Oh no.
But, because there is SO MUCH to say--
Where to start?  Which topic first?
The hustle and bustle wears me out.  The activity wears me out.

Nativity

There is overload. Christmas overload.  I think it is so sad to say that. To blame overload on Christmas.
In fact I find irony in the phrase…

Irony, because Christ came to bear all our burdens…yet, this busy time of year, we MAKE ourselves busy. We MAKE OURSELVES  burdened.

I’m trying so hard to not sound ‘grinchy’ …worried while everyone else is going about making all things merry and bright, for what?  Why am I worried?  Why do I care if I sound ‘grinchy’ or not?   When people have obviously forgotten the True meaning of Christmas.

I guess, I’m afraid if I say it out loud; maybe it would hurt someone’s feelings?  I don’t know.  And yet… I’ve not had ONE person, while I’ve been out and about, wish me a MERRY CHRISTMAS, without me saying it first. It sounds like I'm judging and keeping a record, but truly, it just an observation I've made.
Yes, Christ came, he was born and laid in a manger. He humbled himself. Left Heaven and Glory for what?    Is there anyone left who doesn’t know the story?

Christmas is a wonderful time of year!

It is not for me to say “To Enjoy Christmas, the presents, the lights, the tree …is wrong.”
It is not for me to say “ YOU MUST CELEBRATE the birth of Christ in an honorable way.”

I’m just saying however you celebrate this holiday—remember humility.

Put others first.
Give kindness. Give joy. Give time to someone who is lonely.
Give a hug to someone who is not huggable.
Share a memory with someone who is grieving.
Open yourself up to receive a blessing by blessing someone else.  Mind you that is NOT why we give…so that we can receive. But by giving from our hearts…we do receive a blessing out of it.
Share the joy of Christmas—and if the opportunity arises, say a prayer for those who are without the TRUTH.

Til next time, Be Blessed!

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, [and] being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. ~ Philippians 2: 5-8

:: A Sense of Urgency …and Doubt{sort of pt. 2"}

::DAY 11::

Some of my yesterdays… are not pretty.  The thing about yesterday is IT IS NOT TODAY.  Today is all we have to be concerned with; not worry, but concern.  Be busy for today. Trust for today. Thankful, …for today.

To quote a great poet, singer, song writer… “Yesterday… all my troubles seemed so far away.”

  rusty wheel barrow

I previously wrote about A Sense of Urgency or the Lack Of—I shared some pretty truthful parts of myself with you.

What I didn’t share was THE TRUTH. These are my thoughts on that--

Yes... people are always in a rush lately. Or seeking immediate attention. As if EVERYTHING is coming to a halt in a minute...if they don't get answers.  I think we are living more and more in a SELF-CENTERED WORLD.  I for one am guilty and trying so, so hard to NOT be that way.

We've forgotten what it is like to serve...we want to be served. We are all like children...(in a selfish way)...not in the (faith like a child way--Which is how God would really like to see us. )

CEMENT PILLAR-old birdbath pedi
Do you think we are lacking faith and NOT trusting...when we are in such a rush?

Do you think We DOUBT God can get us there on time...or get us the answers we need?
I do.

I think we are full of doubt.

That is how I felt yesterday...when the pharmacy told me the cost of the meds.... it jumped up X 15!  I was rattled by it all.  Immediately, I doubted God...and only started thinking of myself.

Hmmm.... not proud of some of my yesterdays.

Nothing brings this truth to light better…than God pulling along side of you and turning to me ever so slowly and smiling. { A soft answer turns away wrath}

That is what God did on Wednesday…after all this passed. With a couple of phone calls—the prescription was rewritten for the write right amount. The money was there to purchase it.  There was gas in the car to make the 30 mile round trip …back into town, so The Honey could get his meds.

It was like God pulled along side me and smiled and said …’TO DONE’… he didn’t chasten me {though He could have} He didn’t ask ‘Why do you doubt?’   He just said, “To Done.”

To quote an even greater writer:

And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory, in Christ Jesus.  ~Philippians 4:19

Some days it just takes patience…mixed of course with FAITH rather than DOUBT… and different perspective is there, staring you in the face.

:: Getting To Do’s rather than HAVING To Do’s –Day 6 ::

While I’ve been busy around here… work, work, working on getting things done—I’m getting to do something I’ve been longing to do for a while now.
I’m getting to sew with my vintage Viking sewing machine…!  Oh man! I can NOT tell you how thrilled I am about that.

 Viking sewing machine pm
It sews so smooth.

I’ve not had any problems with it—I love the sound it makes as it is humming along.

I’m so very grateful for this $15 machine. Don’t get me wrong now—I DO LIKE my Elna…
but we have a history.  I’ve had my fair share of hair pulling with that machine.

But  the Viking-
It just doesn’t give me the problems I am generally used to having when I sew.
There is something about it, you know, that causes me to enjoy sewing with it.

It could just be that finally after all these years, I’m getting to enjoy sewing.

It could be …FINALLY, after all these years; I’ve organized my sewing notions and paraphernalia so that sewing isn’t so stressful. There is nothing like trying to sew and not being able to find that little “something”. I almost had that problem today—and I just couldn’t figure out what I’d done with the upholstery needles I’d bought from the Husqvarna dealer; I was sure I’d put them in the sewing box where I keep all my other needles. Finally, I went to get the upholstery thread and THERE THEY WERE!  I was so happy I’d finally  taken the time to organize that box.
It could be I’m at a stage in my life where I’m sewing what I want…and I’m not HAVING TO SEW because of any reason, except that I WANT TO.  That is so 'child-like' isn't it?

There are so many things that we MUST do around our homes—because they just HAVE TO BE DONE.  I’m guilty of looking at those things with dread and distaste.  I can’t help but wonder—how much I’d enjoy doing them if I looked at them as a privilege instead; if I looked at them as though I were getting to do those things…rather than having to do them. Perhaps look at them as a gift--something to be Grateful to God, for sure. I wonder what God thinks of this child?

Then it made me feel sad—because of the people who have come and gone to my house—I wondered if they could tell that I didn’t really want to do something and if it made them feel bad—as though they weren’t welcomed or perhaps an inconvenience?   There are so many things we take for granted—getting to cook a hot meal for our family, getting to run fresh clean water over our dishes, faces and bodies… getting to drink it.
These are just things that popped into my head today as I was getting to sew---
in doors,
with electricity.
On something totally frivolous.

What are you GETTING TO DO?  Is there something that you HAVE to do…and just don’t like doing it? I don’t like washing dishes…guilty. I’d rather take a whoopin!

…well, not really, but I would rather hang laundry on the line, than stand there and wash dishes.  I would bet---I wouldn’t even want to load a dish washer if I had one. I try to wash my dish as I use it.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who has things like this pop into their head…while your busy, doing.

:: WEBBING AND TOOLS- Stretched Beyond my Limits? ::

Sustainability means a lot of things; it means keeping the existing and perfectly usable (but ugly) items and making them over to be more pleasing and it also means doing this makeover on a budget.

You may have seen the quote above on my sidebar ... I copied it pasted it there a while back... because it pretty much sums up
ALL THAT IS
Corn in My Coffee-pot.
First, In the practical sense; and then of course,  the truth is my coffee-pot doth run over. I'm very blessed. I feel it is exactly how God is with me. He takes the perfectly usable (but ugly...parts of my life and personality) and he makes them over to be more pleasing. Period.

Anyway... enough about that... this is about having the right tools to do the job.
I thought I better put up a post.
Man! do you know how difficult it is to Re-Upholster ...while blogging about it?
Now, I truly know why so many of you...
work, work, work away
in the back ground and then come along
and
BAM!
Put up a beautiful post with beautiful photos
...and a beautifully finished project.

No warning or anything.

I DON'T BLOG LIKE THAT. :)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

This is picture heavy. So I'm going to try and keep all the chit-chat for the comments.

To Stretch Webbing
You need a webbing stretcher.  This varies in both style and price...Joann's had them for about $27.

The one shown below, I only found online and is actually called a webbing strainer...and most of the ones like this I found were in the U.K.- MORE AFFORDABLE but, they'd have to be shipped. Not sure how long ...blah, blah, blah.

Remember... It's already taken us 3 1/2 years to do this project and we're doing this project on a budget. $27 bucks for a wooden tool... a bit much. So we just made one!

I wanted to make the one with nails sticking out of it. But... he wanted to make the 'strainer' style. That was T.H.'s department and he got right on it.

When I say..."MY" webbing strainer... I mean...He made it and I mainly used it. But, T.H. doesn't use a camera...so for demonstration...he is using it and I'm taking pictures. :)

And here is how we used it.

Once the webbing was fastened to one side ...we'd weave it through or pull it to the other side make a loop in the webbing and feed it through the slot.

The straight edge had a notch in it for wedging it against the furniture piece and of course, I scavenged a piece of dowel off an old bar-stool for tightening up the webbing. (see below)

After the loop is fed through the slot (see below)
  1. You run the dowel through it
  2. Gauge the length- begin to tighten
  3. Wedge the strainer against the frame (Pressing down on the strainer pulls the webbing nice and tight.)
  4. Tack it in place!

Does this project seem like it's taking a long time?
Like an eternity?
It does to me....
I just keep telling myself "Pretty soon, I'll get to sit on my nice pretty couch."
"Pretty soon, I'll get to fluff it with pillows."  ...and "Pretty soon, I'll get to play around in the living room with my furniture and re-arrange all sorts of things."
And then I remember... "Pretty soon, I'll get to do all this again ...with the matching chair!"

Thanks for sticking with it... "Pretty soon, you'll get to see the finished project."

:: Art, Wine, and AN ABSTRACT PAINTING ::

Apparently, there is a trend taking places right under our noses...
though, I'm no artist and this could be something that has taken places since, I don't know... the Renaissance? People are having a glass of wine and painting a picture.

Simultaneously and at the same time, even! People... as in small groups. For fun!

I've only just heard of this.

There is a new art studio in town...and the owner offers the opportunity to have paint parties, fund raisers, and experience  painting like an AR-TEEST!  fbpage: Stop-n-Gogh art studio

Most recently, Monday night,
I was treated to a night of fun, frivolity, artistry and spirits, though I did not partake.

Oh, I painted alright...
I had fun,too.

I was even frivolous at times... (slathering paint with reckless abandon)

Going wild with this funky chicken.

Painting, minding the rules (oh, yes, there were rules)
Let's see.
  • Relax
  • Have fun
  • Have a glass of wine (if that is your thing)
  • Breathe (remember it's just paint)

Nothing I could find more entertaining than going out with my 2 daughters and having a fun time...painting the town chicken. (Oh, and watching a bunch of women that I don't even know get plastered partake and slapping some paint on a canvas)-

We had so much fun!

When we got home, Our husbands all liked our chickens/roosters... but to us, we thought TOGETHER that they looked more like rejects from a Kellogg's Ad- agency!

I'm not a wine drinker... so I'm thinking next time I try to paint a canvas...maybe something stronger than iced tea?!  Like a RED BULL! or something. Seriously, we were sober when we painted these.

Once I got it home and on a shelf in my kitchen... he doesn't look TOO bad. I don't know...that could be the iced tea talking...

I named him... "Corn-flake".
