:: Buster, Defender of Yard Birds ::

Taking a walk for the first time around the yard... free from the cage. Free to chase the Grasshopper.

And chase they did.

Oh, they have known what a grasshopper is too. I'm certain that their Maker has instilled in the them this clever knowledge...."MUST EAT GRASSHOPPERS"
It also helps that the Great White Hunter "Honey

and the boy have collected grasshoppers for weeks now and fed them the tasty morsel ...that is Grasshopper!

They must learn not to trust to closely...every fur-legged thing in the yard too.

Buster sat here at my feet the other day, as the Guineas made their way to the Wisteria bush for cover...foraging for the Grasshopper.

Every time he would go near them... I watched.
He is smart.
When I call his name "Buster."
He came back to my feet each and every time.

He stood under the Wisteria...at one point...wanting to get a sniff of them.
Then he peed.  He came back over and lie down at my feet.

It is the Chi-weenie.
That is the dog that brought the extra Guinea up from the barn. The chi-weenie; that held the baby keet almost lifeless in her mouth. The keet we nursed back to health. The one that is larger than the rest!

Hopefully, the Chi-weenie will not try this again. Perhaps Buster will be a protector of Guineas and yard birds, although he does like to run through the flock and get them ROWED UP!
He must think it sport to have George, our Rooster, run after him a bit...

I am trying to train him NOT to eat the yard birds.  I have allowed him this rubber chicken.

Bree brought it to him. He likes to play with it. He brings it to me... we play a little game of tug o'war (I win.) I toss it away... he gets it and brings it back to me. Faithful, loyal, Buster.

In my mind I know he is "DOG" ...if I can trust him to be anything, it would be, TO BE A DOG. I am not naive. But still...

I hope he never brings me a Keet, chick, or yard bird.
I hope he will be a "Defender of the Yard Bird".

Perhaps earning his keep.

In the mean time.
He has killed this rubber chicken.

It DID HAVE a 'squeaker' inside it...
Buster is now the owner of a Mute Rubber Chicken.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Rejoice in the LORD always and again I say Rejoice.

He is growing into a handsome young fella! Isn't it fun to watch their joy when they find that squeaker?

Enjoyable post ... Buster is beautiful. We don't have dogs or Guinea, but I enjoy watching the birds, deer and squirrels. Well, I get mad at the squirrels for eating all the bird seed and the deer for eating my flowers, but they are fun to have around. Have a great week.
Hugs,
