Back in May, Ace Hardware was giving away a free quart of paint... CLARK AND KENSINGTON~Paint and Primer In One
Now, I usually don't go to the trouble. But this time I did.
I went and picked up my can!
I had no idea what color I would get. I wanted something in a Shade of Red; because well, I just don't paint very much red around our place. But when I got there was told that I couldn't do a Red or Yellow based paint.
So... I chose something in the BLUE RANGE...
My test subject was this jelly cupboard. I had this cupboard for about 21 years... and have never done anything with it as far as painting and what not. I bought it a garage sale and paid I want to say about $7 bucks for it... It's been a telephone table and held phone books and recipe books in the kitchen. It's been a jelly cupboard and it has been the Snowman cupboard... and held all my snowman dishes, candles, and accessories for eons! It was sitting right back there in the background of this picture, under neath the painted skillet!
Right... so plain jane cupboard...
and a little wall shelf (here is a peek or you can see it in the mirror above!) I purchased at a yard sale Father's Day weekend. The primer and paint is ALL IN ONE... and this little shelf started out a barn red... hmmm...should have taken a picture of that before painting. Oh well, it covered the red paint quite well in one coat. I didn't do a second coat just touch ups where I missed. I'm pleased with it.

It was free...so what did I have to lose.

...AND HERE... sort of 'light blue'
I love how the paint went on. This cupboard, like I said...was pretty much raw... except for years of dust and grime... I cleaned it up pretty good and then painted it. The paint dried fast. It's a flat paint so I knew it needed some wax...
I haven't waxed it yet... but I did rub some Minwax * Walnut stain on the paint to tone down the
turquoise-ness (if that is a word) of the cupboard.
I like the "greenish- blue" aspect more now after the stain is on it. I also stained the top and it looks much nicer than the photo up top...but I don't think I got a photo of that one, you'll just have to believe me when I say , 'It looks way better.'
I put it in the bathroom this time... and am using it for storage. Right now I have a couple of mismatched baskets inside... I'm looking for another. I will probably paint them; not sure about the wire mesh in the door. I thought of putting a curtain there-- not sure yet. But I DO LIKE IT in the bathroom!
While I was sampling...
I also painted a mirror.
More on those later... ;)
Generally, when I paint- You know I use Ooops! paint, cause it's cheap. But if I were going to paint a big project ...say, a matchy bedroom suite, where I'd need plenty of paint and want to have enough paint the same color. I'd buy this. The primer aspect and dry time make this paint to me a good deal; both in price and time.

White Spray Paint
Looks great, Pat! Pieces that size can go so many places. The stained top and bit of stain to tone down the newness of the paint were both good calls. :)

Love the turquoise-ness (if it's not a word, it should be) and that you stained the top!
Nothing like a freebie - great color choice!

Such a pretty color... Thank you for stopping by
I also got a free sample and although I don't
have the name of the color in front of me it's
pretty much the same as yours... I love what
you did with the chest.. nice job!
I did do a stool for my master closet in the
color and it turned out pretty nice.
Stay Cool out there!

I should have got some!! I have a front door that is begging to be painted....can't paint it a pretty color though, it is against the Rules!! Glad you visited our fairy garden....come again soon!
Great job, Pat! Love the jelly cupboard's new look and I think the paint performed very well, especially on that raw wood. Ann
Pat, did you just pick that color on the spot? I don't know...I don't think I could do that. I have decision block when it comes to paint choices. I bring all samples home and make two or three trips to the store before ever buying the wrong thing and having to try again. Ha! Well, your cabinet is fabulous. Love the idea of toning down the paint with the stain. Good thinking. Now it's all fresh and new. Thanks for stopping over to comment on my finds. I have not tried to get the pallets apart yet. I'm thinking it will take a hammer, a screwdriver, needlenose pliers, a lot of sweat, a few aggrivated outbursts and some serious muscle. I have all the ingredients needed but the muscle, so I'll fake that and give it all the weak arm strength I can muster. I'll let you know how it goes.
