:: Ethel's Chicken Saddle Update ::

It's been about 2 1/2 weeks since Ethel donned her party dress and stepped out of the coop with her protective gear...new duds!  This is her yesterday at the watering hole.

I don't know that I showed you what her bald back looked like when we first started this little adventure ...but she was bare backed.

BALD.
RED.
...and had a scab that was healing.
Not pretty.

I wanted to show you ...I'm NOT crazy!
This Chicken Saddle is actually what it's called, has helped her to begin healing and begin growing new feathers.
She also getting a little bit easier to handle each time I pick her up for inspection.

This is her back now.
Not much redness and there are signs of new feathers. (which looks painful enough if you ask me)

This is the same picture with my chicken scratch all over it.  I've circled the new feathers and the little black specks that are about to be new feathers.  I'm happy all that redness is gone, I bet Ethel is too!  :)

These are the flight feathers coming in; and you can see still a little redness there...but new growth!

 Right wing.

Left wing.

She likes her new dress. She wears it to all her Hen parties...

This is Ethel, in her blue dress, singing an Egg Laying Song to Jayne... while she has a turn on the nest!

I know nothing about chickens - absolutely nothing - well I know they lay eggs but that's about it LOL
But how amazing ( I'm the one that had to ask you about the apron when you first posted it ) that's she's healing by you doing that!
Quite fascinating really !!!
XOXO

I've had to put saddles on a few of my hens as well since the rooster is pretty rough with them. They are working out great, and I'm glad Ethel's saddle is working for her as well!

Half my girls need these, I'm glad it's not winter or they would be so cold! Now that we're down to only 1 rooster and adding hens, it should get better.
