I've decided that I will play with the doll-house when the urge hits—rather than a reward to me for working in my REAL HOUSE. Why the change of heart, you ask? Well, I just don’t work well on a reward system. I’m stubborn like that. Secondly, playing with my doll house has it’s own rewards… as does maintaining my REAL HOUSE! Playing with doll house is just more fun!
It’s all part of that BALANCE.
I found a great tutorial for making a couch. My Froggy Stuff (on You Tube) She uses house hold 'trash' --food boxes and scrap fabrics to make cute little furniture pieces. Check it out.
I used part of an old turtle neck sweater for this couch. It turned out pretty good for my first attempt. Though, I don’t like that the lines curve down on the right hand side. It kind of gives it the ‘factory-seconds-look’!
Here it is in the doll house—in several places;
Moving it around to see how it fits,
Too long for UNDER the stairs.
With the table behind is ‘okay’…
I moved it to the far corner near the door---kind of ‘caddy-wompus’ --it sticks out too close to the door and blocks the entry. You can SEE that I’ve started on the floor in this room, too. I took a break from it to make a couch. (the glue on the edge…is a mess from the previous owners)
I created this little TEXAS State Travel Guide from a picture I cut out of a magazine. Catching a photo of it is tricky—I wanted you to be able to read the cover/title with it on the table; but you can’t get a feel of the room.
Seriously, I can only work on one hobby at a time. You know I’m a lousy picture taker. (i don’t even like to say ‘photographer’ for fear of insulting the true photographer and the ART) I guess I could call myself an amateur photographer…but ‘lousy picture taker’ really suits the bill, Ha!
Just for laughs, I took this picture while playing with my doll house. I took it with my iphone; it is grainy because the lense on the reverse camera setting was obviously smudged a little. :/
...But you get the idea.
I AM A GIANT!
As for the future of the doll house, here are a few things that need to happen before I begin filling it up with furniture. Why should it be any different than my REAL HOUSE, right?
- Finish painting the interior
- ReSET the windows – possibly new windows (these have a yellow tint to them…Is that normal?)
- ReSet the door—this DOOR IS FIXED. I’d like for it to open and close.
- Finish the floor- downstairs
- Put railing on the stairs
I enjoy playing around with it and making repairs and decorating it will be so much fun…once I get to that point.
The only other thing I’d like to do with this doll house is give it a name…something other than “the doll house”. I’ll save that for another post on another day!
So how about you—Do you have a doll house? Do you blog about it? I know a few of you do—Claudia at MHC has an adorable little doll house( which she is still working on and show casing regularly); as does Kimberly at Dear Daisy Cottage (where I first fell in love with the idea of a doll house of my very own)
Til next time, Be Blessed!
