After the Workspace Experience...

Ok... I've shown everyone the *new* workspace. And sometime since posting the pictures for the Wrap-up over at Donna's FJI ... I mentioned I'd show you my first official project in that room.

No, it wasn't the TARANTULA!

although I did sit there in my new workspace and make this beauty!

Remember this picture of my workspace BEFORE?

You see this dresser? Well, before I official made this an actual place to work in; there were tools in those drawers.
Drills, hammers, saws, extension cords, etc.
It is pretty banged up.
It is 'art deco' period ...
probably late 20' s OR 30's.

You didn't really think I knew when 'art deco' was-
did you?

Anyway, enough about me.
Back to the dresser / project from the new workspace.

Here it is now!

I painted it chocolate
(although I'm starting to believe my hubby when he says...that is purple not chocolate)
I don't know what it is about Oops! paint-
but a bargain is a bargain, right?

Anyway, it is CHOCOLATY-BROWNISH in color.
And! I decoupaged the brown paper to the front and sides of the dresser.
Now...it looks old , not to mention water damaged too.
But, and this was purely by accident,
I like the spots.

See... I guess when I glued the paper on, the glue was concentrated in some spots
and then ...
I rubbed it with stain.
That is when the spots occurred.
Too late to turn back.
So, that is how it turned out.

This is the before -

and AFter ...

Now-
This is the Ar moire that was given to me , oh about 21 years ago.

It has been in our family ever since a tenant left it behind
in the old family house in Oak Cliff,Dallas-
My Great-Grandmother had a house with an apartment attached-
kind of like a Duplex.
But not.
Anyway- it was rented and apparently people left
their belongings when they'd move.

The reason I'm showing it is...
this Armoire is from the same time period as the dresser.
I am not going to make them match completely.
But, I will be making it look similar.
Right now it is midnight blue.

Soon, very soon, it too will be

CHOCOLATY-BROWNISH.
(AKA: Oops!)

This is what I have sitting on top of the dresser.
Beaded Safety pin candlesticks and a votive.
I like these.
They are from my MIL home.
She recently passed in October.
I don't have much from her.
What I have I like.
They remind me of her.

I like your "burple" dresser :) (that's brown + purple)and I just saw that brown paper decoupage idea the other day and found it interesting! I think the spots give it character. Can't wait to see what you do with that armoire (or however you spell it). And I love the looks of your field... no snow! And I like those candlesticks - goodness I haven't seen one of them in years - they're cool! Thanks for sharing and sending me over to sticks 'n brooms - awesome!

I like unusual finishes, too- they give a piece character!

You did good! I think the dresser actually looks more like it's from the 20's or 30's NOW! The color is "melted chocolate"???! Btw, I was very impressed that you knew that tidbit about the art deco period! Smart woman you are!!

The candle sticks remind me of my MIL, too and her crafty things. She passed away in Dec.

Kudos to you for painting the dresser! I have some stuff here to do. The weather is just a bit "too winter" for any of that!

Your posts make me smile! And giggle!

What great pieces of furniture! I really like the new color your choose for the dresser. It gives it so much more character.

Oh, and thanks for stopping by my blog via Miss Mustard Seed and commenting on my recliner recover. It was a tough job, and I'm glad it's done now!

I look forward to checking out more of your blog. Have a great weekend.

Ha! It does look purple in the pictures, but upon closer examination, I san see it's brown. I've been seeing that brown paper bag treatment around and it's very interesting. I'll have to give it a try on something to see how it looks in person.
