Last week was Spring Break for our older GRANDS and they came out to stay with us. We had a pretty good time with them—and got a little bit of work done while they were here.
It was hard work—but good for them too. (Alei pounding a post into the ground)
We were able to harness a little bit of their energy, include them in the activity and NOT let them think they were WORKING. (Kaiyah pounding a post into the ground)
OF course—the littles were here too. They like to get in on the action as well. (Bree and I tying off the fence with baling wire)
Never leave the camera where the grand-daughter can get it~
We used what materials were on hand. Some old volley ball posts cut down to 5 ft.; some old cedar branches used for posts. (Oma pounding a cedar post the hard way, into the ground)
I also used some old cedar fencing that I snagged off of FREECYCLE this was originally an 8 ft fence I ripped it down to about 4 ft and then I removed every other board…making it into a three pieces of picket. 
You can see the 3rd picket piece is just leaning there for now…I think I’ll be making a gate from that piece as we are currently w/o a gate! 
This is one of the post Alei pounded in—it was formerly a volleyball post. Never mind that it’s leaning. It was her first fence post. 
The wire was from back behind the barn. We re-used it from another project long ago.
One side of the fence is only about 2 feet tall. It is the left overs from the front bed with the Brussels Sprouts in it. 
The rest of the fence is about 4 feet tall. I was only going to have picket across the front facing the road; however Ms. Henny Audrey squeezed her fat little feathered self through the pickets so since we had enough of the 4 ft. fence to wrap that part too, we did. 
I know from a distance it may look a little slip-shod… but we re-used what we had and spent no money (except the original cost over the years) AND the main thing is
It does this!
Yes~ it keeps the chickens out of the peas.

Function and free trumps beauty, especially when it comes to garden fencing. Good job, and nice accomplishment for you and the kids together. If it works, it looks great.
great job gang! :) so happy it was a family project. Those are memories the grands will have for years.

So cute....I think it looks fine...and all the better when you don't spend money. Otherwise it somehow defeats the purpose of having a garden...even though growing ones own food is good. If the chickens eat it all...you know what I'm saying LOL.
