If you've been reading here for any length of time, then you know that Corn in My Coffee Pot ---is my way of saying USE WHAT YOU HAVE
This is the first in a new Topic I'll be posting about regularly here: Called appropriately
"USING WHAT YOU HAVE"

Have you heard the phrase ? ...
"There is always more MONTH at the end of the MONEY" -unknown
That is how it is for us...and it never fails during that month there is a birthday, graduation, or baby shower to attend.

This month it was a baby shower. Our Pastor and His wife are having a baby. As their kids are bigger now, they are starting out with 'new' everything...all essentials are needed; and the "OWL' motif is what she really liked.

I made this diaper bag for her. I crocheted it; using sheets I cut into a long strip.
(Tutorial coming later; sorry no pattern-it's in my head)
The bag.
The OWL parts.  Owl eyes, nose and wings.
Front view-- put together.
The back...with side pocket for essentials.
Complete with strap.
(no, I didn't give it to her stuffed with diapers)
I made the strap extra wide for comfort and long ;but I didn't make the strap adjustable--because she can carry it over one shoulder or around the neck on the opposite shoulder for better positioning while carrying the baby. She loved it. Everyone at the party loved it too! I know it will come in handy when the baby arrives. They have longed for this baby and eagerly awaiting it's arrival.
This is their themed verse for raising not only this baby; but all of their children (I thought I'd share it with you)

For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of HIS mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

Many blessings to them on the arrival of their new bundle of joy!

I enjoy making things using what I have on hand.  These sheets are some I've been collecting when I shop Bargain Land-- I always get a good deal of gently used bedding there and like to make different things when I can.
Please come back later in the week as I show you how to get the best mileage out of sheets when crocheting with them. (* UPDATED TO SHOW NEW POST) In the mean time, if you'd like to see the way others use textiles, used fabrics and sewing notions, to make something fantastic please visit Mel at

Pat... I live by that motto as well. "Using what you have" But, you've taken it to a whole new level with that bag crocheted out of sheets...it's so cute, and I can see why it was such a big hit. Beautiful Job!
I'm heading over to visit Mel's Cabin Design as you've suggested...
Blessings!

We live by the same motto. Use it up, wear it out. I love the diaper bag. I've made rugs from strips from sheets but never made anything else with them.
