... OR... Boy makes Mom Proud!
I don't have any BEFORE pictures of this Chest of Drawers--
Just imagine wood. laminate. maybe 1980's model... orange-y brown. U-G-L-Y.
But...It's what he had and he asked if I'd paint it; so I did. I can't help but be a little bit HAPPY... WHEN I see my grown kids being frugal with their money; and not swept away with STUFF-ITIS! It makes me glad when they can see the potential in something they already own and not feel the need to rush out and buy "brand new" ...all because they are moving into their own place!
I think it turned out pretty well. I wanted it to match as closely as I could get it to the little bedside table...and of course, I forgot to turn the flash off. So there is a glare and fingerprints from moving it around the room!
They are clearly two different styles... but the same paint ties furniture together!
I wasn't sure about the hardware on the bedside table... but after seeing the hardware on the chest of drawers; I figure they could work close enough without any out of pocket!
I mentioned to him that he could get matching hardware for both pieces; something a little more up-to-date...but he said, 'No Mom, just you painting them for me was enough. They'll work just fine.' =D (big cheesy grin! from MOM)
The LION'S head is not really my style; but hey for a guy's first place and frugal sense--I guess it works!
He bought this dresser a couple of years ago at Bargain Land and only paid about $12 dollars for it. The drawers are solid wood. But the sides are pressed wood laminate. I didn't sand this piece at all. I used DIY chalk paint, along with, BLACK Ooops! Paint.
I finished off with Minwax furniture wax.
Gosh I wish I had gotten a before photo... really. So you could appreciate all my efforts! :)

Wow, I love it. You did a great job on this. I think it's neat that your son is frugal. My son has started going to the thrift stores with me. What have I created? Your son sounds like a winner and so is that dresser redo!

I had the opportunity to look at some pieces of furniture that were done with the Annie Sloan paint and I have to admit I loved them! Being the cheap..errr frugal gal I am I'm gonna try the homemade version, you've inspired me now with this piece.
One of my proudest Momma moments was when my very own crankyteen (who's 21 now) came home from the mall after receiving her very first paycheck and dumped 4 bags of stuff out on my bed of all the things she'd been able to buy on clearance! It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it...lol.

Sounds like good sense has rubbed off onto your son, so you have every right to be proud! Good job Mom! What a sweetheart for appreciating your efforts! I look forward to hopefully having a good relationship with my sons when they are grown!

Love the hardware on the smaller piece. The dresser's is a little much, but after awhile you just don't notice and just USE it. It's great that he's practical about it. I wonder where he got that trait? ;-)
It DOES make you feel proud of your kids, doesn't it? This piece has great lines and nice hardware. It looks really nice in black. :)
