::Don't act like you KNOW me... ::

OR...
"An Intervention

I bought this old picnic basket at the thrift store yesterday.
It barely has a bottom in it...it also has NO LID. It is a nice BIG SIZE.
...and it's green. :)

I'll be honest... I bought it...because I'm a Rebel like that...

You see, It wasn't even for sale.
********************************************

ME: " Excuse me, what is your store policy for unmarked items?"

ATTENDANT:  "We don't have a policy for that, what are you looking to buy?"

ME:  "This basket on the table."

ATTENDANT: "Oh...that's not for sale... I use that basket to carry things around while I'm stocking."
(as she takes the basket OUT of my hands)
"...Besides, YOU don't want this old thing. The bottom is loose, YOU don't want that.
(YES! yes, I do!) ...and there isn't a lid on it anymore..."
(she doesn't KNOW me)

ME: "uh, yes, I do." (calm)

ATTENDANT: "Well, what would you pay for it?"

ME: "$2...?"  :)

ATTENDANT:"Will You Pay... $3??? "
(what in the world? She's talking me up...)
(...this is HER basket...SHE doesn't want to sell it...)

ME: "Sure. I'll pay you $3 for it...." (being Cool)

ATTENDANT: "Ok? You can buy it for $3...just tell the lady at the counter...THREE dollars." (as If I'd forgotten already; what a deal I'd just gotten.)

Why? Why did I want that basket?
With a loose bottom.
...and no lid?
(virtual trash)

Why was I willing to throw down the gauntlet... I mean the extra buck?

I just did, OK?

... I know, it's crazy.

It is a great basket!! I don't like for people to tell me what I do or don't want either!!! Would you have asked the price if you didn't want to buy the basket? Please!!!

You could also fill it with red winter flowers (artificial or not), wrap it with red ribbon and add other embellishments for a Christmas display (inside or out). I did that one year.

you go girl!! I once bought a not for sale sign off a wall from a man's collection in his garage- where he was having a sale. And this summer I talked a lady into digging out the small suitcase of a set because I would rather have it than the larger one she was selling. She even had stuff stored in it. lol we so need to go shopping together! Love the set of baskets- great job!!

Love it! Sometimes I can't explain 'why' either, it's just a gut feeling. Most of the time the 'why' becomes apparent when I can say "Hey, I have one of those!" but since I think I might be bordering on hoarder status I have to admit sometimes...I just want it!

I totally understand. I pulled one from a roadside trash pile, took it home and cleaned it good and it now houses my iron trivets.
Funny thing, the next time I rode by that trash heap, there was a sign that said, "Do not remove anything from this trash pile." I bet there was some other cool stuff left in there...

I get it too. I have one that was...gasp...free.
I've gotten a lot of use out of it too.

Aaahhh, a collection has begun! I would have bought it too, just because it's green. And not for sale. EVERYTHING is for sale. Ann

What luck finding a basket that matches your other one, but a different size. They look so cute displayed together. I have a similar one that is brown with brown metal handles and the same kind of patterned lid. It has a label Redman. I use it to store my Mary Engelbreit magazines. I think your green/with yellow handles are cuter.
