::Frugal Fodder ~5~ ::

We've finally had temps dip into the FREEZING range...upper 20's overnight.
It couldn't have come at a better time...
December. :)

I've taken advantage of having the wood burning stove going all day and into the late night hours too!
I have saved propane all week. The only time we've used 'gas' is for showering.

I've heated water for the dishes on the stove; AND!!!
I've been cooking on it.

I've not ever made this a habit ,in all of the almost 17 years we've lived here-- until now.

This week I've cooked on my stove everyday
So far, on top of the stove, I've cooked:
Biscuits-
 * I'll show how to cook biscuits in a skillet next time and take pictures.
Cornbread-
Beans with Sausage-
Grilled Cheeses-
(for lunch with the LITTLES today)

Here is what we had tonight:
Venison Tips and Rice with English Peas and Garlic Toast

~~YUMMIE~~

The whole idea is that we're saving propane--we're heating our house with wood and so we may as well, use the heat and energy to cook with too!

I'd say that's the tastiest frugal fodder yet!

oh that so reminds me of my young days in Vermont. We had a stove similar to that one and I would sit right next to it! I loved the heat and so did our dogs! We never tried cooking on it however!

You get the gold star for really doing it right!!
The venison tips have my mouth watering. I love skillest. Have collected 7 in the last month at yard sales and thrift stores. I am cleaning them up and giving them to friends for the holidays filled with special Vermont stuff: Maple syrup, emu sausage, corn bread mix, etc. I am a horrible cook but really want to make bisquits in a skillet. Give me a hollar when ya do it.
