:: Using What you Have-- ::

...To Pimp my Caddy!!!
This is my updated Caddy-lac!

Remember this?  I recently bought it at the Flea Market on the weekend of my birthday...
If you home school or have in the past (like me) You might recognize this...

My Home School Mom Uniform....LOL!
It had pockets in the back...DEEP pockets in the front...and look at all that material!!!
It has seen better days and I don't wear it anymore either.

I cut the bottom off of it... and laid it out on the table, used chalk to trace the shape onto the pieces I cut off...

I stitched it back to the skirt to make a bottom for my liner, it's on the inside so all my stuff can go in those luscious pockets!!!

Then I, more or less, created a reversible bag...using this technique and tutorial  @ Skip to My Lou and a really cute yellow vintage KING SIZE pillow-slip--   :)

But then it was too small, because like I said "look at all that material" ...Sewing the bag together was pretty easy, but once it was turned 'RIGHT- SIDE -TO' ...does anyone else use that term or is that just something my Mom said?
...It wasn't big enough to tie onto the caddy properly (with my cute little strap-ties) , rather than rip it out and start over ...OR LABEL THIS A FAIL...

I remembered my little 'grommet kit' my daughter gave me for Christmas...
popped 4 little grommets on the OLD UNIFORM, grabbed some basic curtain clips and dropped it into the caddy --hardware style!

I also had this little "P" I bought for $.40 at the thrift store last week...

painted it all up with the right proportions of green, blue and yellow...because that's what I had and it matched the pillow slip ...PERfectLY!

And now she's ready for shopping! Only, she's all dolled up and I've no place to go... BUT I'M READY!

I recently started crocheting a new bath mat and seat cushion (rag crochet) I incorporate lots of old clothes that can no longer be worn and are too bad to donate...plus it keeps these things out of the land fill.
Have you used old clothes for any sewing projects lately?

Good Idea!! I have a similar cart- I call it my Soulard cart because you see them everywhere at the downtown STL produce market. Now it goes with me to pick squash and cukes but I sure would like a liner. I guess I just never thought to make one.

I don't go anywhere to need one...but I think they are so cute especially with the liners. Good job!

I've never heard of right side to! I have always wanted one of those baskets, great save on the grommets I have never used a grommet tool! Love the "Fabric"

Very clever ... and I have a feeling you'll put that shopping cart to good use. I also love the idea of using rags to make a rug...I just need to take the time to learn how.
You're always inspiring Pat.
Blessings!

Pat, you clever, clever thing, you! First off, you said you were gonna do it and look at you getting it done and with such genius! I love how the pockets of your homeschooling outfit worked like a charm for the liner. So smart! And grommets too? I do hope you find a great sale to use it at soon!

Not lately. I think the last thing I made, was a denim rug from old jeans. I probably won't get much crafting time this summer either. Cute idea with the dress and cart. I could make a laundry basket like that, and wheel it outside vs. carry it.

What a great way to use that dress! Life to the full! Melissa @ DaisyMaeBelle

I love to re-use clothing for these kind of projects, and you've done a fabulous job on your wonderful little caddy-lac. I need one of those. I have to walk to my shopping area to pick up groceries and they are too heavy for me to carry. I love this!

I love jumpers and still wear them from time to time. This project is so resourceful and brings a new light to what a jumper can do!

What a cute idea. I don't have a shopping cart, but everyone says it is essential for flea markets.

Genius! That cart looks very sturdy. Hope you get to use it soon!

Pat, love how you lined the cart, so creative. ... I just bought an old one (pink) but never considered lining it ... but not a bad idea and use it in the laundry room. Likely will use it unlined as I am too lazy to bother to line it. Yours would be great to use for shopping flea markets using those pocket for little items.
