:: A Sleeping Porch::

Whimsical Raindrop Cottage

It's July 1...
and while most of the country is having a heat wave;
we are having a COOL FRONT.

We're expecting temps in the 90's (*edited to say in the 80's!!!- can't complain!) this week with over night lows in the Mid to upper 60's.

Today was only about 94°  with cool breezes in the shade out of the North West.  It was so nice...we ate our lunch outside and listened to the Cicadas.

This evening...(writing this Sunday night)  it's tree frogs and 71 ° ...so nice!

I was just thinking... I wish I had a sleeping porch...screened in on 3 sides.
I'd be out there...dreaming.

I hope you're staying cool where ever you are tonight.
...and if you're on the sleeping porch, with cool breezes,  tree frogs... and 'nary a mosquito-

I hope you're enjoying it!

Finally, brother, Whatsoever things are TRUE, Whatsoever things are NOBLE , Whatsoever things are RIGHT , Whatsoever things are PURE, Whatsoever things are LOVELY, Whatsoever things are ADMIRABLE; if any thing is excellent and praiseworthy, think on such things. ~ Philippians 4:8

I do not have a sleeping porch but we don't have good weather for that right now anyway. I'm seeking cool air every chance I get. Now, other times of year, yes, it would be wonderful. Hope you are having a fun Summer and have a happy Independence day!

I would love one too. Kind of like camping, but with a comfy bed! Ann

P.S. I like your new background and thanks for your email. I am very mixed up! LOL

I like your new background too. I have a "three-season" porch which around here translates to about 12 nice days a year to be out there-- no heat and no AC. It did have windows on three sides-- just the front now. We were told by a neighbor that former owners sided over the side windows. Probably during the energy-conscious 70s.

My dear grandson didn't know what that noise was in the trees at my house! Poor city baby. :(

That porch looks so cozy!
My grandparents had a sleeping porch, when I was a child, and it was wonderful.
I have a screened-in porch, but summer evenings are too hot to sit on it, as it is on the west side of the house.

Hi Pat...
When I was a teen our family lived in Beirut and
my friends family had a sleeping porch on their
home.. It was hot in the hills outside of town
and not too many had a/c's. How I loved sleeping
out there and being part of the wind.
You spoke of African land snails in Houston carrying Meningitis. ...so just be careful. I did touch it.. dum da dum dum! But did not get the slime on me.. just
pinched the shell to move it a bit...lol
Thanks for the warning...
We are in rainy season so only in the lower 90's but you can see the steam coming up from the ground.. sorta strange looking but cooler. Our a/c is on full time for the next 4 months.
I am going to Juneau middle August for about a month, that is if the snow does not start early then I'm outa there... haha
have a great 4th

I don't have a sleeping porch, but I do love it when I can turn off the ac and open the windows at night.

I've hear that we had rain every day while I was gone, which is a good thing, because I didn't have anyone to water my plants. :)

home, good night's sleep, lazy day, recovering from a concussion, all is well!

Me too. I would love a sleeping porch. My aunt's cottage had a porch that was screened in on 3 sides and we often slept out there. Loved it.

I've always wanted a sleeping porch - it's a bit cooler here, but humid, so it still feels hot. But last week we were 105, and over 100 for three days, so I enjoy the cooler temps tremendously! The older I get, the less I like summer. Heat saps my energy. COME ON FALL! Fall is my favorite.

Oh to have a spot like this! I love your blog. I found you while visiting Amy at All Things Home. I hope you'll follow me. I know I'll be following you. Glad to find you here.

Hello Pat,
Thank you for the thoughtful comment at The Bower, it led me here. I am waiting for our day in the 'nineties to cool off enough to enjoy our screened porch (only two sides of screen, but enough to catch many of the breezes) in the evening. Since our youngest son left home last year, we have had a twin bed there, tucked in a corner where it just fits. On some hot nights, it is the only place to be, falling asleep to the sound of the insects and the frogs....
