:: TA- Doi-ing! Day 2 ::

 ~Just in case you thought I forgot about this project, in all the 31 Day Business...No. I'm dragging it up from behind and including it in my month long blogging "From: To Do TO: To Done!"

Tying Springs--  You may remember this picture from the very beginning of this series…

1 Spring Free PM
YES! it’s been an on-going project for over a month. In fact, my first post was on August 25th…and my little grand son was just born September 25th… my how time flies!
But wait!  That wasn’t the very beginning. No! The very beginning took place on Mother’s Day 3 glorious long YEARS ago…

You remember when we deconstructed the settee…
springs
The Rebuild…
next SPRINGS
I set the springs back in …just to show you a reference point. Plus you can see the tangled mass of spring and string married together after almost 100 years!

{{Heebie-Jeebies…}}

This is HOW NOT TO DO IT… the string was the wrong size. The method was wrong. I started out trying to do this as if it were the chair…(coming up in the future…WAY. IN. THE. FUTURE.—not ready to be TO DONE YET)
wrong tying method
ALSO… I’m not VERY good with the math…but I think this formula ^^^^^  is a NEGATIVE.  (AND! I don’t know what was going on with this photo when I saved it in picmonkey… it DID NOT LOOK LIKE THAT. Some one or something Monkey’d around with it!
This is what it looked like after I was done with it.  Including adding the wire edging around the springs.  I am pretty pleased with it and it is very snug and sturdy!
8 way spring tying- a first wm
I hope you didn’t think this was a tutorial--- as I have never done this before.  I thought I’d include a very well done video (NOT MINE…no point in REdoing something,ALREADY so well done) Who has time for that? I know you were cringing at the thought of another of my fantastic videos… Well we’ve been there and TO DONE THAT ALREADY!
8 way spring tie- video
I have watched this man tie these springs… about 25 times! Fantastic!   I love YOUTUBE!

What about you... do you have any projects that are just waiting for you to drag them back out and finish? Maybe this month... you can!

It will be awesome when you are done. I have a chair that I have debated recovering, I am just scared of this whole spring tying thing! Looks you have done a great job, you are inspiring me but I have a few projects to complete before I tackle it.

Way to string us along!!!!! I remember when you got the couch for mother's day.... you are doing a tremendous job with it. Hope that new baby is doing well - how many grandchildren do you have now, Pat? I can't keep up! I have lots of projects, but they are going to have to wait until I stop thinking about time zones and dog walks.... Ann

Hi Pat ... I have too many things on my to-do list that have been waiting for years. A set of 4 chairs I bought in the 70's ... and there is more ... a rocker too. I will never get those done and they will be in my Estate Sale some day. Your couch is looking good. I have done some of the 8-way spring ties and it is not easy.
Good luck with the finish.

I can't even imagine doing this. You must have the patience of a saint, I would have thrown in the towel somewhere after knot 8. Way to go.

I'm so glad you are taking on this project. I inherited a sofa from my grandmother that needed to be redone and it was too daunting for me. I couldn't bring myself to sell it or put in on the curb, so I took it apart and saved the wood and the horsehair. I still don't know what I will do with it. :)
