:: The Holidays- Give and Take ::

I’m not really talking a whole lot about Christmas.
Why?  Because, I’m afraid if I were to get started this would turn into one big rant.
Nobody wants that.
It’s been a few years since I’ve shown my Christmas Tree;  and I have lots of new followers.  Some of you may be wondering if I even celebrate Christmas?
Of course I do;  I’ve JUST not put my tree up in a few years.

Part of the reason, no room.
Yep, Just like Jesus on the night of his birth … there is no room.

But I digress; and  I already said I didn’t come here to rant.

I came here to give you
some idea of what I’ve been up to while away from blogging…

006

You remember that a while back I brought my newly upholstered couch(a.k.a:  the settee) out into the living room; and
I made the remark that my living room now looked like it had ‘frat-house’ seating arrangement?

Well, this is what the opposite wall from my couch looked like until today…
going on a couple of months now.

TV cabinet with captions

Not pretty, I know!  Yes… until today. I still had my old couch and loveseat.
And everything else you see in this photo…not a peaceful room to sit in, on most days.
I think the walls were starting to close in on me.
It was getting bad.

Then on Sunday… Our daughter and Son in law gave us a flat-screen TV.
Yep!
Merry Christmas to us.  I’ll be honest.  I’ve got a couple of different schools of thought on this TV, gift Giving, …gift RECEIVING (there is an art to that you know?)
I was, at first,  a little less than thrilled.

Today--
I had some one show up to take our ~~~FREE Couch and Loveseat~~~ I’d posted on Craigslist.
I did try and sell it.
Can you blame me?  A little extra cash would have come in handy for something.  If nothing else, just to pad the wallet.
But, the more I thought about it--- the more I thought it best to move my ad from the ‘FOR SALE’ LISTING to the “FREE- COME AND GET IT” LISTING.
So I did.

Still Not PRETTY... I know.
It took no time at all and T.H. and son in-law had this thing up and on the wall.
Give a man a flat screen  and he will see to it—that it gets hung on the wall.

So, what did it take to change my mind about our newly acquired gift?
Uhm… some one willing to take a 10 + year old set of gently used couches AND … a dusty old TV (that worked just fine)
Yeah…when they showed up to get the furniture and then T.H. asked them if they needed a T.V.  --- you should have seen the looks of SHOCK and  AWE  on everyone’s faces. (…or I wish I could have seen my own face)

I just turned around to that nice lady and gentleman and announced…
“Ok… I’m warning you.  You are about to see some dust.
You may look at it and be amazed…but please, DO. NOT. WRITE. YOUR. NAME. IN IT.”
They just laughed , Thanked us for the TV and Furniture and went on their way.
It was a good day. :)

Tomorrow—I’ve got plans to do something … I don’t know what, with the rest of the furniture in my living room , AND SOMETHING WITH THOSE AWFUL CORDS!

While you’re all Christmas-ing and Making Merry and Bright…
I am too, in the  background.   Trying to give a  little; and spread a little cheer…and possibly some dust.

Til next time, Be Blessed!

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, [and] being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. ~ Philippians 2: 5-8

Oh congratulations on the new tv! Now you'll have so much more room and have to decide what to do with it all. We don't have a flat screen but it would be nice and solve some space problems we have too. I was hoping the kids would have permanent houses or at least larger apartments and take some of the things that have been passed down- but NO, I have it all plus their stuff from when they were kids! Our TVs are second hand too so that family was probably pretty happy with you.

Quite a gift! Might be fun to come up with a new arrangement, etc. i hear ya on no room for the tree. This year, we'll be swinging a hassock onto our front porch to make room. The tree is still not up yet-- been too darn busy.

I put a few branches of different greens and a twig or two in a big vase and hung a few of my favorite ornaments on it and called it decorating! Although I do love looking at a beautifully decorated tree and house I've never been able to accomplish it and since it's just the Hubby and I now it seems like a lot of damn work if you ask me. This is my first year with no kids in the house so it feels kinda weird but I haven't had much Christmas spirit the past few years, it just doesn't feel like it used to... Have fun rearranging and enjoy that new TV!

I'm sure you will find a way to make your living room very pretty. Your settee is a great focal point, the TV? Well, it's not such a great focal point, so perhaps your sofa can be the focal point.
Have a good day!

Having more space will be nice. You made another couple happy with the furniture you gave them, I'm sure.
I hate cords hanging on the wall, so my son drilled a hole in the wall behind the tv and one by the outlet, near the floor, and ran the cord behind the wall. Looks so much better.

awwww, how fun for the folks to get a free couch and a t.v.!
My (DIY Corner) Christmas tree is up. I wanted to buy a new tree this year, a tall thin one, but I didn't. Hope to get one on clearance after the holidays.

Pat! Two wonderful, thoughtful gifts: the one you received and the one (couches and tv) you have the couple. And now you've received another: a project to work on with your brilliant mind! Ann

Congrats on the new tv! We finally broke down and got one last year after the volume stopped working on are old one. I wasn't impressed at first, but now I love it. It sits on top of a cupboard, but we may at some point put it on the wall. Hubby wants one for our bedroom now. LOL!
Have fun re-designing your livingroom. I look forward to seeing it.
Merry Christmas!

That was such a wonderful thing to give them not only some seating but something to entertain as well! That's truly the Christmas spirit!
