:: So- It’s Kind of Complicated--

RosesMay24

**Before I get to the point of this post—I’ll just say, while looking for a pretty picture to post, that has absolutely NOTHING to do with my inadequacy as a blogger, photographer, writer, etc. I found this. It’s lovely. Something about it, made me think of my Momma—and then I realized today is her birthday.  She would be 67. I’ve missed having 15 birthdays with her.

Ok…now on with the show (more like circus act) —that is CORN IN MY COFFEE POT!

I have HAD MY  blog—I like the name, people know me by that name.  I’ve switched blogs in the past—DISTANT PAST…and that was NOT  fun.

Well, I tried to connect my blog with my Google+ account--

DOING that messed everything up!

If you’ve know me from the beginning—I’m not one to put all my info OUT THERE. Even when I first started blogging—I was ANON.Y.MOUS!  I had nothing remotely related to name AN.Y.WHERE-- Gradually, I introduced myself and started leaving my name on the comments on your blogs--When I became brave, I added my name to my posts!  Crazy, I know.

Anyway-- Recently, I connected to Google+.

SCREEEEEECCCCCHHHHH! that is me putting on the breaks.  I had been making my usual rounds and what?! to my wandering eyes did appear?

My NAME!   My picture!

What?!  all over the World-Wide-Web…  I was not happy. Let’s just say – it way outside my comfort zone.

I started do some research and found a program offered to Google+ users—called “Google Take Out”.  It turns out that Google wants you to create an archive of your Google activity from time to time in order to see where you’ve been and check it for discrepancies…(blah, blah, blah)  So—I did that.  I created the Archive and I’ve not been able to download it SUCCESSFULLY YET!

You have to download the archive before you can merge your google accounts and make two into one… I say if you cannot get it download, then WHAT IS THE POINT? At this juncture…I cannot even use my google archive the way GOOGLE would like for me to…which is overseeing my account!  I’m quite frustrated with it, can you tell?

I had tried to merge my accounts—Google says it CAN be done. I on the other-hand have been unsuccessful TWICE!  IT IS NOT as easy as some would have you believe.

So—for now—I write this post as ‘Corn in my Coffee-Pot’  …my DISPLAY NAME.

**I also have my Google+ account and my gmail that is YEAH…PRETTY MUCH SET IN STONE.  I cannot delete it or else I DELETE all of this!  My creation and home base. (ie: COMFORT ZONE)  My journal.

*** I  DO HOWEVER, HAVE A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS…   corninmycoffee.pot@gmail.com  (It is connected to a completely different Google+ ID…still me, but with a different address.  Hopefully, someday soon…all of this will be there on that account.  If I can ever get the archive to dowload.

IF YOU DON’T MIND, please make a note of that email…as you’ll be seeing it in your mail box more frequently.  I DO ALSO… still have my YAHOO account…with all it’s own set of problems…and the dreaded NEO …whom / which?   I despise.

I have a couple of questions for you:

  • Do you have your blog linked to Google+ (many of you do)?
  • Do you like it that way?
  • HAVE ANY OF YOU TRIED Google Takeout and been successful with it?

That’s it for now.  I probably told you more than you wanted to know. Just know it’s complicated. If I could give you a tip, a “WORDS OF WISDOM” SPEECH…

Don’t monkey around with the buttons and switches. Period.  Leave well enough alone.

Til next time, Be Blessed!

When I switched to Google +, people told me that they couldn't tell what my blog was and I notice I have trouble finding the actual blog of people when I have to go through Google +.

I switched back to commenting as artandsand

Yes! I had some of the same problems. Not to mention EVERYTIME I commented someplace it wanted to post it on Google+ The whole thing sort of weirds me out.
I'm thinking the only way around it all is a domain name. :/

I've had struggles with Google+, too. Soon after I started my blog, not even a year ago, after deleting an old one, (sorry, long explanation ahead, lol). We had gone through a couple painful years at our church before we finally realized it was time to leave, which was like going through a divorce. I don't say that lightly, as I have actually been through one! Anyway, I did not want any of the people there in this part of my life for a good long time, so kept my profile very low. I want my facebook, pinterest, and blog left completely separate! My then 10 year old son tried setting up his own email (without checking first, of course) for one of his gaming accts., which we would have helped him with, but there you go. Anyway, Google connected it to my account, then shut down my blog, saying I'd given them info that I was too young to have an account, and I could no longer access my blog. There was no help - my husband got on the phone with someone, and they couldn't figure it out, either. I couldn't delete the attempted email without deleting my blog. I even already had my own gmail acct! I still don't know how my son's attemted acct and my existing acct were joined. I don't even remember how I did it now, but I never fully solved the problem, just managed to get around it. I also have trouble finding actual blogs with google+. I was so frustrated when blogger wanted us to start using google to log in, etc. I'm not looking to have a famous blog - just record my life and make a few bloggy friends along the way!

Today's my mama's birthday too. She would have been 82. You lost yours so young. Can't imagine. My mom died four years ago and I still miss her so much!

I have no idea what I am doing on Google + but I really don't post anything that I don't care if everyone reads.

I signed up for Google+ when it first started. Then I realized that it made very little sense and quite frankly, I'm wary of Google. So I have nothing to do with Google+ anymore. I don't link my posts to it or any of that kind of thing. Google knows enough about me as it is. They don't need to know more!

Grr -*attempted, not attemted, lol, don't know how I missed that. Anyway, I wanted to also say, I'm so glad I'm not just a google moron or something!! I'm glad to be in good company as far as my google issues are concerned!

So sorry Pat. I refuse to join G+. I hope you get everything ironed out soon.

I joined Google plus a while back when I thought it was required, but the same thing happened to me with my full name, photos from my family only blog, all that stuff. I was able to get it all removed but I don't remember how, maybe something with the settings.
I don't like google and don't like that blogspot is part of google. I've thought of switching to Wordpress but at the moment, that seems too daunting.

I have no desire to ever link up with Google +...and this post of yours has certainly reconfirmed my choice. Thanks for posting. Hope you are able to straighten all of this out.
