::What’s in a Name? ::

When I was out for my drive last Friday evening—I stopped by several places and took some pictures. Actually, I took pictures of NAME PLATES on gates around here… most of these are all within a couple of miles from our home.
away down home
So here are a couple of questions for you:
Do you name your home?
Where-ever you may live, do you give it a name?
This one is kind of hard to see—you can barely make it out. Mocking Bird Hill
A closer look at the sign--
Mocking Bird Hill signage
This is not the same Mocking Bird Hill (as in Cottage) here that we all know and love…
Nope. This one is in Texas!  I spotted it for the first time just the other day. I’ve passed this house a BUZZILLION times… and never noticed the sign before, I’m not sure if they have recently added the sign, or if it has new occupants or what the story is—but I certainly did recognize the name!
Some people name their estates.  I’ve heard that cabins near the ocean often times have names. Near the lake close to us—some of the homes have names.  Ranchers Name their places and use symbols at their brands when branding cattle.  As humble as our place is-
I have always wanted to name our home…but never have. The Honey didn’t see a point in it and was never on board—so I didn’t pursue it. My Grandmother ,on my dad’s side, named the rooms in her house—The Blue Room, The Pink Room, etc. On my Mom’s side—the houses were called after their street names—the 9th Street house or the Denver House, of the Central House.
I’ve lived here 18 1/2 years—do you think it is too late to name our place?  I’ve had a few ideas over the years.  I like The LIVELY MANOR. Named for the little community where we live.  Though, we hardly live in what would be described as a ‘MANOR’… I think that is why I like it so much. The IRONY of it.  :)
We’re also a pretty lively bunch—but at the same time…very laid back here. That being said-
The Big Eazy
“The Big Eazy”  is already taken.
Here is one of our house (below). I found this picture I took on Flag Day this year…  YES! RIGHT THERE UNDER THE FLAG…
not the ‘NO SMOKING’ SIGN…

Flag Day
You can barely make it out…
“Honey and Oma’s Playhouse”  -- What with all the LITTLES running around and 2 more on the way-- I guess it suits us!
Oh!  did I forget to tell you?  Yes, our daughter is expecting, last time I mentioned this was when I told you I was diagnosed with diabetes – CRAZY WEEK!  I was waiting for confirmation from my other daughter …AND! —BOTH OUR DAUGHTERS ARE EXPECTING!!  They are both due in February—about 5 days apart.  They have NEVER BEEN PREGNANT TOGETHER, they are thrilled about this aspect. SISTERS!  Still we are cautiously optimistic FOR BOTH THESE BABIES and their Mommas.  I have so much to share with you in the future—LORD willing.

Ok, so what’s your take on naming your place?  I’m terrible with names. For now, I guess I’ll just stick with what I usually call it… HOME!
Til next time, Be Blessed!

I just found out our youngest is expecting Jan 25th! We call our home Coriander House, mostly because we live on Coriander. Love your cute sign.

Hey, they stole our name! Just kidding. I'm sure there are others out there. In answer to your question, I don't think I would have named our home if not for the blog. The idea of the blog generated the name. But I'm glad I named it!

My dad's ranch has a name because its also a business. I like names for land and homes- we don't have one because we're just renting right now. I fully intend to have a home with land and a Name! Out in East Texas towards Lake Fork, there are tons of homes with names like the ones you posted above. Oh and Congrats and the new babies coming!!

Congrats to your daughters and to you Pat. How fun for them! I name everything! And we now live at New Boston Manor, thank you very much! Hardly a manor at all. Our kids live at The Buckingham, so named because they live on Buckingham St., not the palace :-). I think it would be great if you named your place. How about "Pat's Palace"? LOL Ann

We were going to name is Deer Haven but based on what happens to the deer out here, it was not exactly fitting. We decided on Oak Haven instead but we don't have a sign. That is your house with the flag out front? For some reason I pictured it as red with white trim. I have no idea why though! Maybe because I love red houses but never had the opportunity to have one. Wonderful news - two babies!!

Congratulations on the new grand babies. There were five of us in the family pregnant at one time. Two sisters and three sister-in-laws. All babies born within six months, starting in August. My poor Mom was worn out with all the new additions. All the babies were girls.
Love your idea of naming your home ... never thought to name ours, but our workshop is named.
Thanks for sharing.

Congrats to the daughters and you too. We don't have gates like the ones you have in the photos. I wish I did though. Just for more security.
