:: A REBEL With My Hands ::

This week...I've been keeping busy doing lots of projects.  I was losing motivation with my couch and so I decided to step away from it a few days and work on something else.  Do you ever do that?
I thought I'd show you a few things I've been doing to keep my hands busy instead.
I began work on a ripple stitch afghan for a baby... NOT OURS...still no baby!

I haven't done a ripple stitch in YEARS! I forgot about the opitical illusion factor... I noticed it was starting to take the shape of a rather LARGE WEDGE... oops! what had I done?  HERE is the pattern

After each chain 1 turn... I wasn't skipping the first stitch-- I DON'T KNOW WHY...anyway... it was adding a stitch with each row...
So... I frogged the whole thing and started over. This is as far as I've gotten. Once I get the pattern down...it is in my head while I'm working on the piece (maybe I should study the pattern more closely.)

My daughter commissioned this piece from me and picked the colors.  I thought it was going to be a bit thick...but that is how she wants it, this young lady's baby isn't due until early October (and winter will be here soon) .

I'm using this thread:

Earlier this week: I made about 5 dozen tamales...that was work! (not pictured...who can make tamales and take pictures at the same time?  I wasn't even sure I could MAKE TAMALES) I respect the hometown tamale cook. A couple of years ago, Bree's Abuelita (and my Son in law's mother)  came to my house and taught me to make tamales.
Now...my recipe is written in my own hand...but her english is broken and my spanish is poquito ... So my recipe was like this:
2 finger fulls of baking powder,
 1 bag of masa,
3 hand fulls of salt...BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...
Everything else was from memory and wow! It was sketchy. I made them, ate a couple (to make sure they were good) and then froze the rest.

Maybe next time I'll photograph the work involved.

Then yesterday, I made bread.  I got this recipe off Pinterest. Easy recipe, easy to follow. I proofed the yeast (it was good) This recipe was supposed to make 2 small loaves. Instead, FOR ME,  it made 2 LARGE ROLLS! lol...

I'm sure it is no fault of the recipes. For one-- I added too much sugar.  I was going to substitute 1/2 the sugar ingredient with SPLENDA...in the process I doubled the sugar ingredient. It called for 1/2 a cup of sugar WHICH I ADDED along with 1/2 a cup of SPLENDA. You see?  It should have been 1/4 of each...but NO. That isn't what I did.

I'm starting to see a pattern here... I can't-
or DON'T -
or maybe I just refuse to follow a pattern, a recipe or apparently basic instructions!

What's that tell you about me?
I'm a rebel with my hands!

** JUST A NOTE--  I'm not sure how this will change things with links and such, but I'm going to be doing some more work in the back ground of my blog. I'm changing my labels deleting some and re catagorizing my posts. Just trying to make it a bit more streamlined.

trying to do that with my blog as well, I've considered starting another one also, and merging the two. I think my blog title is restrictive, and only those who crochet might be viewing. I have other facets of interest. I do love to crochet, your blanket is coming along. I've found that ripple stitch rather difficult to get going, but once you get the hang of it, it comes together quickly. Keep on moving that hook...it's looking good.

Oh that blanket is going to be beautiful! I remember my grandmother had a few of these now just a memory in my head. I am also glad that I am not the only one who can't/follow directions

Recipes and directions are a guideline for me. Sometimes the results aren't too bad

The afghan will be lovely! I have trouble with that side too, it seems that I am always recounting and adjusting as I crochet. Ripple is the only pattern that I know how to do, they say that it is the hardest to learn, but the lady who taught me to crochet said if I could do that one, then I could do anything. She had high expectations for me I think. Guess that I am not the only person who has trouble following instructions, or destructions as my Daddy called them!
