:: Don’t JUST do Something; Stand there…

Yesterday was such a busy day for us!

GARDEN: I finally got the front garden beds emptied out from the dead vegetation.  I’ve not planted anything yet—considering it.  I did some inspection on some very small very young Plum trees that Honey planted last year.  I thought the grasshoppers had eaten them up. But after looking closely…
they are still green and have even sprouted some new leaves.  A good sign.  I might need to pot them for the winter time--- so that they’ll be strong enough to go back into the ground in the Spring.  Bree is a big help in the garden—she loves getting down and dirty. She likes to rake, hoe, water and anything else I’ll let her do.  Just like me-- To her gardening is like playing!

PLAY: I took Vincy outside with us…and sat him on pallet to play—pallet meaning, an industrial platform that is solid plastic NOT SPLINTERED WOOD!  He stayed right there on it with his toys and never got off once; but  He got very dirty!  I had to give him a bath and he went fast asleep after that. It was good to be outside in the fresh air—it was breezy and not too hot.

CAMPER: We put plastic on the door of the camper—No door still, just an opening. Around 5:30 we went outside to do this—and our neighbor came out to our fence waving her hands at us… she wanted to tell us bad weather was coming our way. Good thing we got the plastic on the camper. ; )
It rained really hard!  We worked on and off in the mud room this past week.

MUDROOM: Turns out we had to temporarily put the plexi-glass back in the screened mud room too!  Earlier in the day I had cut a piece of pallet wood/ from the shed tear down, to fit under the threshold on the back door. We fit it in on an angle so that any water would run away from the house.  I didn’t get it painted before the rain, but it worked pretty well!

ORGANIZING: My 40 days of organizing—has been a good thing.  I’ve found things that were put back for projects and have been utilizing them now almost every day for some project or another.  So far I’ve pulled from the resource pile: a TURN-BUCKLE (for the back screen door)  and a FAN SWITCH (for the bathroom light kit)!  No purchase necessary!

ON THE ROAD: Doctor and Groceries-
Today, we got up at 6:30 (normal time for me) got the kids and their car seats into the car and headed down to Palestine,TX to the V.A.  --Time for Honey’s labs and next week his check up with the Dr. He is over due. They like to see him every 6 months.
On the way back we stopped in Athens at SAVE-A-LOT… it should be called SPEND –A-LOT… because I felt like that’s what I did today—but Honey reminded me we hadn’t shopped in two months!  Oh yeah!  We spent more than I thought we needed too; but we didn’t buy extras.  I’ll make out menus with what I purchased and see how long we’ll stretch it this time.

Writing 31 Days: Tried so hard to sit down and write last evening.  Nothing would come.   It was all over the place. I felt a little frustrated—and distracted.  I decided I’d sleep on it and just do the ordinary. Looking back at all we accomplished yesterday and today—I feel pretty productive.  I tend to be this way with lots of things. Not just writing. This has happened in the past with blogging—and I end up taking long breaks!  I don’t want to continue taking those breaks.  Doing this is helping me to focus. Some things I’ve considered in just 3 days of writing everyday:
  • Writing everyday takes practice
  • Don’t force it
  • It’s ok to write about productivity--
  • It doesn’t have to PROFOUND, REMARKABLE or some BIG REVELATION
  • BE PATIENT!

Til next time, Be Blessed!

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door. As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. ~ James 5: 7-11

Hello
When I was a preteen and teen, I went to church camp many times in Palestine. I remember it being so pretty. I am amazed you went 2 months without grocery shopping. That is a frugal feat for sure.

2 months without shopping? Good for you!!!!
Glad you got your door on the camper and the threshold fitted before the rain came. We have had a lot of rain here the last few weeks, too. Crazy ...and cold...it is snowing just north of us. Unheard of for us this time of year. Gonna be a long winter, I think.
Good job on the writing-you are right- it does not have to be profound. xo Diana

I'd have to stock up on a lot of toilet paper to go 2 months without shopping here. Until the kids all move out anyway, ha ha!

We have a SavALot here too, it is the new store in town. Other than that there is a tiny downtown store but you can't shop there all the time because it's so small that the prices are higher, then there is another grocery store that they have not upgraded since forever. The lights make everything look green. SavALot may cause them to fix it up a bit. I drive so far to work that I probably pass 6-7 grocery stores so I stop as I need things.

Pat, you are teaching me so much! Your productivity, your lighthearted attitude, your constant progress, your interpretation of life and writing -- but especially your ability to make an interesting story of what others might consider mundane -- these are just some of the lessons I'm learning from you.

Pat ... I wish I could follow your lead and get organized and accomplish a lot ... well, I do work hard every day and accomplish a lot, but the to-do list is so big, I hardly make a dent in it.
Today, I started restoring/changing and rebuilding an old kitchen cabinet that been on the to-do list for years ... that's good.
Thanks for your inspiration.
