:: Keeping My Hands Busy—While I Rest

I have been trying to find little things to do around the house…that don’t take a ton of energy.  Let’s face it right now, just walking out to the kitchen…I get terribly winded!

 The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Anyway—one day, last week I took all the clothes out of one of the drawers in my dresser…and pulled out all my summer t-shirts.

RAG RUG- TSHIRTS

I'm trying to stay on course with moving in mind-- so, I was looking to get rid of clothes, instead what I found were the makings of a rug!  I sat in the kitchen floor and removed the sleeves or bodices off the t-shirts and then folded each one in half and cut all the way across leaving about 1 inch to the next seam… after that I opened it up and began cutting on the diagonal across each strip until I had one long continuing strip of fabric. I did this in several different sittings...over a couple of days.  I couldn't rush if I'd wanted to.

I’ve shown you with pictures Here and Here how to do this method of stripping fabric.

ALL BALLED UP--

This is the pile of t-shirts all BALLED UP and ready to be crocheted into a pretty rag rug.

rug in progress

and TA-DAH!   It’s not finished yet…but it’s a pretty good start.  I just sit and crochet in my chair…resting a bit…then I get up and do a little bit here and a little bit there.  This is a great way to use up any scrap fabric, t-shirts, sheets, etc; that just aren’t really suitable for passing on; but you could get extra mileage out of them for other purposes.

Some of these colors are going to be in one of the new baby’s bedding…orange, turquoise, blue and yellow… with whales…ssshhh!  don’t tell!

We've had some really cold weather blow through here --not your average November for Texas.  It feels more like JANUARY!
Anyway-- I can sit and crochet under this summer t-shirt rug and it helps keep me warm just fine.  I hope you're finding ways to keep busy inside; and ways to star warm too.

‘Til next time, Be Blessed!

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. ~ Titus 2: 3-5

It's very cold here today, but I'm getting things done early so I can hunker down for crochet time. I hope you are feeling better.

Well, aren't you industrious?! Even when you are "down" you are doing something! That rag rug is a good idea. We had them as kids when I was growing up. xo Diana

That is such a great idea. I took all my old tee shirts and made a quilt. Love it!!

Great idea Pat ... love rag rugs and some I have are beginning to wear out. I would never attempt to make one ... so I admire you for doing this especially when you are not feeling good. Take care and hope you are feeling stronger soon.
