Summer, Fall and the Start to Something New

corn in my coffee pot @2015
The summer is winding down.
The summer is winding down.  Forgive me, I just had to read that ONE MORE TIME.   It’s been a long time since I’ve thought in terms of summer coming to an end; along with Fall being the start to something new and fresh—like school!
I don’t even know where to begin to tell you about what led to this event.  I’ve been busy with paper work, shopping for clothes that fit, getting phone calls made—making preparations for a fresh start; and I’ve barely had to to write, though I’ve come to the computer several times to write a blog post.  So many thoughts just seem to run rampant through my mind and I stop and just stare at the screen. No words come.
I’m thinking about things un-done, priorities, responsibilities.   I think of the future; and for the first time in a long time I am day dreaming about MY future. It almost sounds sad; but I don’t mean it that way.
I’m thrilled!  I’m excited.  I’m giddy with curiosity.
I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing.  Most of you knew that already, but it’s true.  I actually wrote the financial aid dept. today, because the recorded message said, an email would be answered faster than a  phone message… (big surprise!) and after asking my questions (yes, a list of questions)  I apologized for sounding clueless!
Plain and simply, I’m scared, with excitement!
It was beyond me, what classes I would be taking when I showed up to take the college entrance test.  That’s how little I know about college.  My schedule says ‘liberal arts’.   Well!  you will believe me when I say, I came straight home and  GOOGLED it!
Be careful what you search on the internet.  Different view points are scattered about this world wide web!  Depending on what you read- a liberal arts graduate, can be a creative person who thinks outside the box and can do anything and everything; OR they’re not worth hiring, due to their inability to make up their minds and not being structured enough!
I nodded my head in agreement knowing that both of those definitions of a liberal arts students… FITS ME!
My blog photos this evening have nothing to do with school; but they do have to do with summer winding down. Our grass is turning brown from the heat, though today we’re having a cool front with 10° cooler temps than we’ve been having. It’s so hot and dry many leaves are falling from the trees, like it’s late October! The Catalpa trees do this every summer. Right now we walk through the yard and hear the crunch of leaves under our feet. By October, often times, the yard has ‘greened up’ again, before the really cold weather sets in for winter. So brown yard equals some trees are losing leaves and there are no flowers to photograph.

Good Ol’ George and Lucy, a splash of color in our otherwise brown exterior as summer is winding down.
‘Til next time, be blessed

And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season, we shall reap if we faint not. ~Galatians 6:9

Where are you attending college? I went to a liberal arts college but you do get a degree in a concentration. Mine was Business and English Communications (tv, journalism, writing, etc) with a minor in History. You won't need to make up your mind right away so you have time to get an idea of what you want to do.

Good Morning Patricia, Congratulations on going back to school. I am excited for you, it is going to be so much more than you even dreamed in terms of excitement and adventure. I love learning new things and I loved college, although I've only done community collage. Wear comfortable clothes and a big smile and say Hi to as many people as possible . . . You'll make so many new friends and you will find that you fit in perfectly . . . it's going to be a new and wonderful adventure in learning :)
God Bless you.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

I have a liberal arts degree. I majored in creative writing with a minor in political science. The Google definitions of a liberal arts student were (are) true about me as well. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life until my first child was placed on my chest. And now that the children are grown, I'm back to not knowing again. You are an action-oriented person, Patricia. Your other major strength is resourcefulness. You will be an awesome college student!

I graduated from college at 21, returned at 38 to get a teaching credential and earned my masters at 52. I am a firm believer in continuing education. Just believe in yourself and you'll do great!

You GO! I went to a small liberal arts college and got my undergrad in English. Then, after I had kids, I got my Master of Arts in Teaching from what they used to call a "teacher's college." THEN, because I love learning stuff, I got a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (which is just a Master's in Liberal Arts; it has nothing to do with politics). The world is a much better place because of people like us. Plus, we always win on trivia night.

I am so ready to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall! However, we had a beautiful week in the low 80's here at the end of August, and September is going to start off in the mid 90's. What the heck? How am I going to get ready for Glendale?

I'm so proud of you for taking these huge steps. No one in my family ever went to college until Jamie did. I was so proud of her for her accomplishments! I can't imagine going back to school at my age, but would definitely be open to it when I "retire". :)

good luck to you Patricia!
