uP or dOwN…either way~ it works!

I’m in the process of giving my bathroom a facelift… I  showed my little bit of progress over the weekend.
You remember this…? Bathroom - before 021
I mentioned before it has never worked. NEVER.  The Honey wired it up about 16 years ago… and NOTHING. No. Not EVER.
uP OR dOwN …  oFf OR oNNOTHING. bathroom light fix 007
BUT NOT ANYMORE!…
bathroom light fix 012
I know what your thinking.
giGgLE  giGgLE SnORt ….
But remember we still have the ceiling fan in here, complete with light kit! This is Texas folks—we are justified in having ceiling fans in every room if we want. Really! They’re an integral part of the comfort level in OUR home. Seriously! Today… the high is 71°.  Ceiling fans are important, PEOPLE. Especially in the bathroom.
bathroom light fix 009 This is the original light to this bathroom. I have the globe for it…but currently the little nuts that hold it to the wall are slightly bigger than necessary and the globe won’t fit.
I’m going to dig around in the shed for some NUTS! and get this bad boy looking good.
Oh yes… and when the switch is UP… it’s on; AND! that little pull string works too. (that is just bonus) It’s sweet I like it!

Really- I don’t care what the light looks like …ehem, except for that 80’s faux-brass-painted –red- thing… then I might care.
I just like when it’s uP …it’s ON.
and when it’s dOWn …it’s off.
I like that part!

Picture Perfect Progress-

I am working on our bathroom—giving it a ‘lifestyle’ lift. Not even a Face lift—because I don’t have money for new fixtures or anything like that. It’s fun—thinking outside the box; being creative. Coming up with something new with very little resources almost guarantees ‘originality’!  =)

This bathroom has come a long way since we bought out house 16 years ago—I wish I had those pictures! But I don’t so - These are the BEFORE Pictures. Bathroom - before 002 I have had the Coca- Cola Theme for almost 8 years!!!!!!!!!!  Sometime in the last month I was playing around with some sticks and twigs and the dresser runner and came up with this little curtain, you know just trying to decide what way I’d like to go from the Cola theme.

Bathroom - before 005

The blue paint—I put on the walls last year right around ‘heart attack’ season. I never finished in here.  Since then I’ve decided I didn’t much care for all the blue paint on the walls. I suppose the Gibson Girl—Cola Motif will be leaving too. Bathroom - before 003

The louvered door was a pain to paint—I am not looking forward to painting it again. But, alas—it will be painted. Bathroom - before 014  It is what it is—In all it’s Coca- cola Red and creamy beige and blue walls. Bathroom - before 008  Desperate for an update.

Oh and then there is this… Bathroom - before 021

It doesn’t work …it has had one bulb in it. And it has never EV.ER worked. The lights in this room are attached to a ceiling fan over head…

So—I’ve not done anything great in here except paint so far and hang a new curtain.  The curtain, I bought at Bargain Land—for a couple of bucks. It was a definite change from the Coca- Cola. I think it may still be too much blue. But for now—it is staying until I get the sewing done on a new one! Bathroom - after paint 003

I liked the twig and dresser runner curtain. So I kept it. I think it looks pretty in here especially now with the new ‘Antique White’ paint. picture window perfect

I’ve primed the shelf over the potty. I’m doing something different with this as well. But the red is gone. I’m glad. granny bathroom oval 2

The white makes such a difference in here now. This below was taken when the Sun was setting… I like the feel of it. Yes—I see her…sipping her Coke (and possibly smiling)

I’m going for an old – I guess , Vintage looking bathroom. Minus the claw-foot tub and pedestal sink.

 antique white bathroom-oval coke

Don’t get me wrong—in the future should the bright blue sky open up and drop an awesome CLAW FOOT TUB into the stream of “Bubble Bath” where it would make it’s way to my humble little privy… I would gladly rip out the small fiberglass model that we are currently the proud owners of—and believe me,  Nobody is happier than I am to have a place to bathe… but a Claw foot tub… Well, that would just be dreamy in my book!

Just so you know--- that from looking at these pictures… I KNOW THAT THIS ROOM isn’t finished yet; …and you know me, I have  a history of not finishing projects (do you do that? I do.)

I splashed paint on the linen cabinet doors!  I also rolled some on the sink base-- Bathroom - after paint 002

Yep! NOW THEY HAVE TO BE DEALT WITH.   I also have other details to finish.  I have the light fixture removed and we have to come up with a solution there.  I’ve got a shower curtain to make—and knick knacks to re-arrange… I’ll share more hopefully later!

But oh, it will be so lovely. I will enjoy sitting in my tub… amongst the bubbles and relaxing… and sipping on a Coke!

~ As always,

God Bless you and Thanks for reading!

Thrifting- CHARGERS JACKET SOLD-

****If you came here for the VINTAGE CHARGERS JACKET--IT'S SOLD. SO SORRY.
If you're interested you can read about that story here.  Thank you for your interest.

Last week between my hair appointment and my dentist appointment- the Honey and I stopped at Bargain Land to do a little browsing.
I picked up a few things. I got this needle work /embroidered piece. It is done in all RED THREAD I liked the subject of this little boy and his dog …I imagine he is teaching his doggie to fetch the stray arrows.  I’m not sure how old it is…there is some discoloring on the fabric (which appears to be linen) in the corners.
Kitchen Knick Knacks 015
It is framed nicely with a paper backing on it and the label says ‘COUCH’S Texarkana, TX.’  Kitchen Knick Knacks 018
I’m thinking of removing the backing and seeing if it has a stitched name on the inside---perhaps a maker or a date.  It was $2.
Kitchen Knick Knacks 014 I also found this doily—and this is a terrible photo. I had it draped on the chair…it is twice the size you see…mirror image to what your seeing. I’ll take a better photo and show it. I probably got it for $. 50  …I know it was less than $1. It had a hole where it had come unraveled. I repaired it already.
These are some Chrome Wing looking things.  I don’t have any wings on my camper…but thought these would look cool on there. Honey says that they may be too small. But for $1. you can’t beat it—so I bought them. If they don’t work—I’ll either find a use or resale. Kitchen Knick Knacks 013
This is Honey’s “NEW” JACKET… he’s been wanting a sports jacket, windbreaker type.  This is a Starter Jacket. YES! I paid a $1 for it too. And NO.  He isn’t a Chargers fan… (he’s not EVEN a COWBOYS fan~)

The best part about this purchase?  He thinks he scored so big… and I guess he did (if he were a Chargers fan) … I Looked it up online. It is highly sought after collector model.  C. 1980-- It is issued from the NFL and it is worth anywhere from $28 to $175 …. This jacket was in BRAND NEW CONDITION.  Someone probably had it as a memento … and he is just going to wear it. Too bad he’s not a fan. He just got it for the STYLE of jacket. He thinks they are so comfortable

He’s so proud.  It almost doesn’t seem right, does it?
He’ll be wearing it when he watches the Super Bowl--- Go Patriots!

Getting close to Tatting and Chickens-

I spent some of my spare time Tuesday- trying my hand at Tatting. first Tatting samples 007 (My Granny Jo’s tatting shuttle)
I have been saying for a few years now—that I want to learn to do this. I can crochet—so how difficult can tatting be? first Tatting samples 009(My first two attempts. I couldn’t get the hands to work right or the little knot to flip the right way.)
Apparently it’s harder than it looks. These are some of my samples from today. Let me just say, when you crochet and you make a mistake—you can just rip it. That’s right- just pull on the thread and go back the way you came! Simple.
Not so with Tatting. Well, at least I couldn’t figure it out. So all these bits and pieces… got whacked off!  first Tatting samples 005
This sample above—kind of a cork screw. I found several videos on youtube and am GETTING CLOSE TO TATTING.  I watched a Russian woman (with the volume down, I don’t speak Russian – and well, IT WASN’T HELPING!) She apparently was only showing the “half-stitch” and it just. kept. twisting.  I didn’t know! tatting 2 010
I found another older lady—somebody’s Grandmother, on video—she was quick—and thorough. She showed some good close up shots of the stitches—that’s when I found out about the ‘flipping’ part –(where the knot flips over)—GETTING CLOSER; but her hands were too close to the camera to see her technique so well. (and then there were some children in the background talking and Praising Granny for her job well done! – and well, that wasn’t helping)
At some point or another I was finally successful PULLING the ring closed.  tatting 2 004 Then I decided to try and make a PICOT…tatting 2 008 the above is my first attempt at one of those—after all my previous attempts at everything else.  I’m  getting close to the point now of—well, do I forge onward in my Tatting; do I actually try and make something? Or do I stick with crocheting?  I think I’m getting close to making something! I just have to find a pattern. (and learn the vocabulary)  Don’t let my vocabulary ,so far ,fool you…  I don’t know what’s what hardly—except what I learned today.
*************In other news…*********
Some chickens were spotted getting close today while I was sitting on a bucket. Getting Close- 027
Even George came out of the corner to see what I had in my hands. Getting Close- 021
That’s it!  I’m getting close to Tatting …and Some Chickens!

Old Pallets

So, Honey says, 'What are we going to do with all those pallets out in the barn?"
I keep telling him, 'I don't know, we'll use 'em for something.'

Yesterday, he calls me in here to the pc and says..."check this out"
...

 I've been telling him!
Finally. He gets it.

HAIRY - SCARY

OK… So after my last post about my chickens, my hair and their strange behavior; I received a couple of requests of pictures of my hair---just to get a comparison and maybe  know what my chickens might be thinking. me holding my chickens 005 This is me – holding Jane on my lap and as you can see…she is letting me and my little grand-daughter pet her. Everyone is playing nice and getting along. This is NOT LONG after we got them, too.
My hair is quite long, pulled off my face and some- what lighter in color. New Hair Cut-Jan 2012 031This is me with a new cut – it falls around my face and is darker; more my natural color. Sorry, I don’t have a picture of me wearing my glasses.
I thought the hair cut was an improvement…but apparently, The Chicken Jury has spoken…
It's just plain scary!

Strange Goings-On~

This is George- or sometimes I refer to him as Mr. Burns.
Sunday I took these photos…I was checking up on George; making sure everything was alright…you see the post right behind him? That smear just above his back…it’s blood. Chickens- acting strange 002 See on Saturday… we had bought some shavings and took them down to the coop. Honey carried the big bag from the truck around front…and when he got to the coop- being all tuckered out; he just dropped it on the ground. That startled the chickens and from then they just kept their distance—NOT coming near at all!
George—just kept running into the chicken wire. Chickens- acting strange 004
The other thing—I’m curious about - IMPRINTING and how big a part it plays in recognition for birds… and I don’t know ANY. THING. ABOUT CHICKENS OR BIRDS…this is all so new to me.
But, they hadn’t seen me in almost 3 days.
Thursday, I had a dental appointment and got my hair done. I  came down with the flu on Friday and wasn’t recovered until sometime on Saturday…So On Saturday, My once long hair …totally whacked off…and I also had my glasses on Saturday when I went out there. They didn’t want anything to do with me…PLUS THEY WERE SPOOKED, remember.
I got my work done and got out of there; but not before noticing that George was bleeding. There was no way he was going to let me hold him and doctor his wounds. Besides, what do you put on a Rooster’s bloody comb? Chickens- acting strange 008      Sunday—I went out just to check on things.  THEY HATE ME. Nothing had changed, they didn’t want to come near me at all. George stayed in the corner.
Chickens- acting strange 010    They gave me the stink eyeChickens- acting strange 009
I took some cabbage out to the them. I thought I’d tie it up and give them something to play with while the eat… NO. they are leery of it. Chickens- acting strange 007Unless I tore the cabbage from the head and tossed it out for them…they didn’t want anything to do with me or the cabbage! Chickens- acting strange 001 …And George, who I’m not even sure wants to be on first name basis anymore, stood in the corner… He is so friendly usually, for a Rooster. He is gentle when he eats from my hand, he isn’t greedy with the raisins. (I think he’d rather I call him Mr. Burns)
  • So what do think?
  • Do you think it has anything to do with IMPRINTING AND RECOGNITION?
  • Are they scared because my appearance changed?
  • Were they just spooked and on Sunday they still hadn’t forgotten about it?
  • Maybe they don’t care for cabbage on a string?
  • Do you think this blog author has too much time on her hands?
  • Will things ever be normal in the Chicken coop again?
*edited to add-  click here for photos of me and my recent hair changes

Let me know what your thinking…perhaps you have some answers for me!
