“You Broody Chicken”

100_9306

The wee little chicken she lost her mind
and she began to sit.

Said the chicken lady to the little chicken
“Pearlie, I think you’re broody.
Come out today,
from the coop to play… in the nest box, you cannot stay!”
but Pearlie replied…
“I like it here, in the coop, just fine.  I’m waiting…
I’m hatching a plan.
I’m pretty sure some chicks will come—I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I am.”
Oh Pearlie—I think you’ve lost it sure;  you see, there’s one thing that you forgot --
All this waiting in the Texas heat--- will ‘cook your goose’ besides;
THERE ARE NO EGGS
  under.
your fluffy.
little butt!

As a result of her broodiness—the other hens began laying eggs in the car park flower beds and also in the Stacked Pots in the front flower bed. Naughty chickens.  First seen @ Instagram ...click on over and you can follow me there too! I am a chronic Instagram-er.  There I said it. It's out now.
Boy! don't I feel better. :)

 Broody Hen - july 2014
3 days of Solitary Confinement with food water—put a stop to all that nonsense.

Just to clarify -
"Broody…or not Broody?
Sometimes you’ll see a hen sitting on a nest, but you may not be sure if she is actually brooding.
To find out, slide your hand under her and try to remove the eggs. If she is just sitting there, when you reach under her to take the eggs out, she will get off the nest rather indignantly, squawking and fussing the whole time.

If she is broody she’ll stay put, pecking your hand and making little, throaty noises while she puffs up her feathers and tries to look tough."  - Hobby Farms

I guess you taught her! I guess it takes tough love with chickens too.

At least she tries! Our hen thinks she is broody and will try to hide eggs beneath her as I am collecting but in a couple of days she just gives up and leaves. No naturally hatched chicks. Glad your other chicks will get to lay in the nesting boxes now.

I've got a broody hen too. I bought her3 blue fertilized eggs and put them under her. She gets off the nest once or twice a day to eat and poo. On the first day, my blue laying chicken managed to get in and lay a 4th egg! Now why didn't I mark the first eggs? Well, I dotted the 3 I think are developing and put a ? on the 4th. The due date is August 2nd for up to 3 of them :-)

I love your chicken posts--even though I know nothing about hens and eggs and such!
