The month is almost over… I’ve been working from ‘TO DO’ to ‘TO DONE’… and now…
TA-DAH!!!



I told you…  the next time you see the picture below… I’d be finished.



Well… guess what?! 
I finished my couch!  I know!   I am JUST. AS. SHOCKED.AS YOU!!! 
I can’t even begin to tell you… so I’ll just let the pictures speak for me.

Everything I could ask for in a 90 year old couch!

I love it. I must say…after having it in the middle of my spare bedroom and up on saw horses for 2 months… I sure thought it was a bigger couch than it is…

My living room seems much larger.  The Ceiling much taller.  The T.V. much farther away.

It only took me 3 1/2 years to get around to doing… all the while, I researched…and watched video after video… I wanted it to be just right, you know?

Thanks for your encouragement…and thanks for being so patient… IT’S FINALLY FINISHED.

…now onto the chair!

 ::31 Days of To-Doing to TO DONE! ::



Had some busy activity this weekend. I was hoping to be further along with the Settee than I am now. But over all…it is coming along.

Here is a peek… I know black and white—so not fair!


I am trying to keep the momentum going –along with all the other things I have going on here in my home---‘THE KEEPING’ part;  I’m not having the 3 kiddos today (Monday or Tuesday) ,so I really want to use this time as much as I can to work on it.

I won’t be showing any more settee photos until it is done!
 
Few reasons—I have to stop and take pictures that slows progress. Editing and staging the in progress part isn’t so easy. I need good lighting…and then posting about it…all the time thinking I could be working on it.

I’ll still be posting in the evenings for the 31 days of blogging series. Just not any settee pics.

Don’t worry though…I’m so close!

:: Leave a Message- Posterity’s Posterior -Day 4::

I have a really quick SETTEE POST…

This is just to show that the back layers of burlap had been sewn by me, by hand…to  keep them in position, no rubbing and wear and I guess to give more shape to the back of the couch.

Also. I like to do this… I write scripture in various places on projects that I work on; under paneling, inside furniture, on rafters inside houses I’ve helped frame, etc.
Many of you suggested I leave a message for ‘FUTURE GENERATIONS’ so…that is what I’ve done here.

It says:
“Blessed in the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked;
Nor stand in the path of sinners;
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers-
But his delight is in the Law of the LORD and in his law he meditates DAY AND NIGHT.” ~PSALM 1:1-2

I also wrote my name and the date on the inside too. One day, if someone else sees the need or desire to ‘re-do’ what I’ve TO DONE… then maybe they’ll be blessed to find this message and read God’s word.
What type of message are you leaving for Future generations?  Maybe there is something else you’ve TO DONE for posterity… share it!

:: TA- Doi-ing! Day 2 ::

 ~Just in case you thought I forgot about this project, in all the 31 Day Business...No. I'm dragging it up from behind and including it in my month long blogging "From: To Do TO: To Done!" 



Tying Springs--  You may remember this picture from the very beginning of this series…


YES! it’s been an on-going project for over a month. In fact, my first post was on August 25th…and my little grand son was just born September 25th… my how time flies!
But wait!  That wasn’t the very beginning. No! The very beginning took place on Mother’s Day 3 glorious long YEARS ago…

You remember when we deconstructed the settee…

The Rebuild…

I set the springs back in …just to show you a reference point. Plus you can see the tangled mass of spring and string married together after almost 100 years!

This is HOW NOT TO DO IT… the string was the wrong size. The method was wrong. I started out trying to do this as if it were the chair…(coming up in the future…WAY. IN. THE. FUTURE.—not ready to be TO DONE YET)

ALSO… I’m not VERY good with the math…but I think this formula ^^^^^  is a NEGATIVE.  (AND! I don’t know what was going on with this photo when I saved it in picmonkey… it DID NOT LOOK LIKE THAT. Some one or something Monkey’d around with it!
This is what it looked like after I was done with it.  Including adding the wire edging around the springs.  I am pretty pleased with it and it is very snug and sturdy!

I hope you didn’t think this was a tutorial--- as I have never done this before.  I thought I’d include a very well done video (NOT MINE…no point in REdoing something,ALREADY so well done) Who has time for that? I know you were cringing at the thought of another of my fantastic videos… Well we’ve been there and TO DONE THAT ALREADY!

I have watched this man tie these springs… about 25 times! Fantastic!   I love YOUTUBE!

:: Sewing Burlap and Horse-Hair ::

Since showing you the web stretching... 

and HOME MADE STRETCHER...

 I feel like I've made some head way on the couch. 

I've revisted some of the wood issues... 

I wasn't going to DECONSTRUCT the back...but now I'm glad I did...otherwise I wouldn't have seen the split seam. So that was a good thing. 

There was more of this... 

You can read about previous gluing and clamping here...I pretty much used the same method, without the wooden dowel this time. 

Next, after attaching the webbing to the back of the frame... I began the process of rebuilding; attaching burlap to the webbing and adding the Horse Hair Neck Roll. I'm re-using the horse hair. The Burlap, webbing and thread are all new. 

You can see the staple gun there in the lower corner. I just stapled the burlap to the frame.

I used cotton thread  DMC brand SUPER MERCERIZED COTTON (I already had on hand) for crocheting... it is size 10 

 Not the most beautiful sewing job I've ever done... but it's the mechanics of the REMAKE...so it won't be seen. * you may click on the pictures to make them bigger if you need.

 I still have more stitching to do...and then I'm moving onto the springs.  Those are being held in place with stitches too. No clinch tool here due to budget and DIY aspect. If I were going into business... I'd consider buying all the proper tools...but as this is not the case... I'm not.

At this point... I'm usually losing my momentum on projects. This one is taking longer than expected.  I think my expectations of finishing quickly were high. I do have a pretty good concept of time.
But not when it comes to projects...and of course there is the "unexpected happenings" factor. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the progress so far--and I was just telling someone this is a big thing on my BUCKET LIST ...so finishing is PRIORITY. ~LORD willing. 

I bought my burlap at the flea market from a produce vendor...$1 each.  I bought about 6 of them ...waaaaaay back when I began planning the little project. I like the graphic on this one. Too bad it's going to be covered.  

At this stage it sort of reminds me of the Restoration Hardware -phase of 

'De-constructed furniture'

... though I'll be going for something a little bit more cozy and cottage-y. ;)
