Garden Update – First for 2012-

Last week—Our broccoli was still short; but coming along. BROCCOLI IN DEC 2011 001
This week it is much bigger and just about ready to harvest! brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 010  And if you look closely it is starting to make new sprouts off to the sides of the stalk. They are tiny but they are there! brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 014brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 012
Also today—I was outside in the garden and I noticed that we have brussel sprouts coming out on the stalks!   brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 001 This is so exciting to see!  I’ve not ever grown anything like this before…and I ABSOLUTELY. LOVE. BRUSSEL SPROUTS! brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 005
Finally, today… it was warm enough to have the top off the hoop frame and let the plants breathe some fresh air… brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 042
And my *little Bree noticed tiny white flowers on the pea plants.  She was so much more expressive with her excitement than I was…but we were both pretty pleased about it. brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 046
Lastly, being out in the yard—snapping pictures of all that is taking place – I also snapped this picture of the Daffodils coming up through the dirt and leaves.  This is about right for them.  They will be in full bloom usually around Valentine’s Day. brusselsprouts-peas-broccoli 037
They will be beautiful and they will be a beautiful reminder TO HOPE!
I’m must say that having the gardens last year has taught me so much about our food, water, self-sufficiency…and human nature!
I think the favorite thing I learned…and I don’t know who said it, but I read it out there in blogland SOME.where.
The very best thing for your garden is the Gardener’s Shadow.
I’m looking forward to gardening more this year and learning more. I personally learned so much through trial and error. So much was out of our control!
I was reading Boho Farms and Home
and Caroline mentioned watering and the disaster they experienced with their garden during the hottest months. I think I’m taking her suggestion and let my garden rest this year during those months as well. We did pretty well, during the early Spring months and late Fall up until now!  Sounded like good advice from me.
I’m posting this here:
~~~God Bless you and Thanks for Reading!
You have a fabulous winter garden, you lucky girl! It is finally snowing a little here, I am so excited. I LOVE the snow, that's why I live here and not where you do, I suppose.
Hugs, Cindy
I grew broccoli ONCE and it was soooo yummy! Tasted so much better than the store. I hope you get plenty to actually make more than one dish like mine. ;)
I'm so jealous of your brussel sprouts! I hope mine catch up. Your broccoli looks great. This is the first year I've had broccoli that I can actually harvest and I do see little sprouts on the side on mine too!
Although we are having the mildest winter in my lifetime, still no snow, I am so jealous...nothing green will appear here for months yet!
