Purple Iris and Green Enamel-ware
I’ve taken pictures of just about every flower that’s blooming right now in our yard. I’ve not shown any pictures of the garden.
That’s because there is still nothing to show!
My word for this year-- DO.
Of all things I’m to DO. So far, planting food intended to be eat later… hasn’t been done.
You can see in the above picture… a little garden bed—filled in with weeds and grass. I haven’t done a thing to choke them out… or pull them up. There are 5-7 little Plum trees; we planted from seed in the fall of 2013. The dollar store fence stands sentry for the little plums trees—keeping the chickens from picking them clean of tender leaves. The grew through the early spring and all last year and this year they’re back; and they did sprout little leaves on them! I’m hoping they’ll continue to grow.
AS for anything else—NOTHING IS PLANTED!
These Iris flowers don’t need any help from me. They were planted there years back—my oldest daughter, planted them, if my memory serves me. The purple looks pretty next to the GREEN ENAMEL WARE dish pan.
That’s the other thing! My rusty old enamel ware pots don’t have plantings. The cheap pot on the ground doesn’t have anything planted in it.
Of all the things in my yard thriving-- and nothing planted to set the table.
We’ve had nice enough weather this past week…and it has gotten my head thinking in that direction.
Plant, plant, plant. But what?
I made a short list. If I can just get a few boxes cleaned out and sown—I’d be happy. Well… happier! ;)
- Spinach
- onions
- tomato
- pepper
- beets
- radish
- squash- zucchini or yellow crooked neck?
In pots I may try some herbs--
- dill
- oregano
- basil
- thyme
- rosemary ?
This weekend is taken up with activity already… unless I carve out a little bit of time to garden Saturday morning. My excuse is rain, babies, …HA! whatever pops into my head!
It’s already April 1--- have you planted? Are you going to plant? If so what?
and heck… what excuse are you using?!

Last year I grew the crooked neck and regular zucchini and I think I have more things that go with the zucchini. I will scale down on it this year because my Botanical Interests seeds ALL sprouted and I didn't have the heart to thin them so I just moved the extras and had way, way too many.
If you like collard greens they seem to survive winters here and regrow in some cases. I'll do spinach, collards, some radish and a few early lettuce types. We have a potato tower so we will do more of those although not a boat load of them. I'll have tomatoes, mostly heirlooms like Cherokee Purple and I'll do paste tomatoes this year. I don't care for it but my husband planted asparagus and it's perennial so you don't have to do much to it for the next season.

I dug out a large plant pot, and will drill some drainage holes. I'm adding peppermint to the herb garden, but containing it like spearmint. I may grow nettle yet. Not sure.
I think the planting I do this year will be mostly window boxes and urns. Lots going on here..plus helping a daughter move. xo Diana
Ugh, like you, NOTHING. I had "planned" last year to clear the space for my garden out, make some raised beds, but all efforts went to the porch. This year it's the kitchen and bedrooms, so far. We've had very wet weather, which means I really have to either suck it up and work in the rain, or have things very well planned out and make myself get out there when the sun shines...or rather, when the rain is absent, because we have had several sunshiny rainstorms this week, haha!

My hubby wants an herb garden and the spot where I want him to put it currently has a pear tree that has to be cut down. Anything in the yard is his job so I can't be picky -- but he wants herbs so he'll have to plant them. The more he plants, the more I'll have to cook with so I hope he gets on it!
Around here we normally do not plant until May, but we have been having warmer weather than normal this year. I have planted peas and lettuce and they are coming up. I also planted sunflowers, cosmos and marigolds in one bed and the cosmos are popping through the ground. I hope that we don't get a frost and kill them . . . if so I guess I can plant again. Do plant. Do not wait much longer. Do try rosemary. I've got a small veggie bed with a couple kinds of tomatoes, peppers, chard, lettuce parsley, cilantro, marigolds (for the chickens) and pots with some of the same items and other herbs: lemon balm, chive, basil, rosemary, sage, also a fig tree and a quava in pots...and flowers galore. Soon it will be too hot for just about everything.
I can't plant here until the middle of May-- am anxious though. Good luck with yours!
Nope, not planting any food stuff.
I do plan to do a little memorial flower garden for my beloved Louie (who I miss more than I thought was humanly possible)

I am ready to plant but haven't yet started. I've been on spring break this past week and have been working on getting my flower beds and landscape beds weeded and cleared of debris. The garden is cleared and I can't wait to plant!
