DIY Industrial Lighting-Update!

When I last showed you my new-ish porch light, created By me for the front porch… it was like this. Sitting on my kitchen counter--- all aglow.
selfies-tinyhouse-porch -porchlight 259
  • Canning basket-check!
  • 2 small (very small) strands of Christmas lights-check!
  • Assorted jars-check!
And you got the idea.
Well, now I’m showing you… I’ve   T.H. got it hung.
I must STRESS, I used different varying sizes of jars.

Still …aglow!
I didn’t use uniformly sized canning jars—made to fit this canning basket.
From a distance… still aglowing; and lighting up the porch nicely!

Because, well… I use those for ‘CANNING’…duh!  Besides I had all these ‘used’ jars in a box—waiting to be repurposed.
Never mind—varying sized jars EQUALS UNBALANCED LOAD!
Here…finally, you can see it hanging from the support.

I have to give T.H. (the honey) some credit on getting my light hung; a couple of a reasons.
  • —you know how I procrastinate
  • He finally ‘gets’ my STYLE (vintage –repurposed-junk)
  • He doesn’t let a little thing like “TILT” keep him from hanging a light!

It works!  I like it! And it’s up there.
So what… IT TILTED A LITTLE, BIG DEAL?!
He gets my style… just not my vision  I wasn’t keen on the 1x4 idea at first—but you have to pick your battles, right?

It’s nothing  A ROCK IN ONE OF THE JARS COULDN’T EASILY FIX! OR…SEVERAL SAME SIZED CANNING JARS WOULD HAVE BEEN SIMPLER.
  • T.H. and I make a great team, don’tcha think?
Do you and hubby work together on projects? Does he ‘get’ your style? Does he have your vision? In the end does all that really matter?

Love it- even, uneven,. tilted, upside down- it is great...and fun....and if you paint that 1x4 you will never even see it. Fun and a great job. My Hero has never "gotten" me....I dont think that is gonna happen here. xo Diana

Love the light. Hubby helped me making towel holders from old pastry blenders and cuts of old barn wood. He loves to do those kinds of projects.

lol work together? we couldn't even unload 12 bags of mulch from the truck without one of us being in a HUFF! I would have rather just done it myself.

great job on the light team! rocks? genius!

You will enjoy the light, tilted or not. Does not look tilted to me ... it looks great. Good idea ... Sometimes it is hard for our husbands to see things as we see them. Mr. Z. helps me but with a lot of instructions as to how I want something done. Sometimes, he has a better idea that I had not thought of and it works. Lots of things I could not do without him. Being married for almost 63 years, you would think he would know exactly how I want something done. LOL

We do not work together on projects. Except he helps me move stuff from one place to another. He enjoys my style, but he does not "get it" enough to understand it when I try to explain what I am going to do. He does "get it" enough that when I tell him what I am going to do he just goes with it. We have clearly defined roles - he does the technical stuff like setting up the electronics and maintaining the computers. He does the lawn. I do the garden - which he sometimes helps with. I'm good with all tools except circular saw so he does what I ask him to - but only gets it right about half the time - and that's ok. In the end - it works for us.

Very cute idea! Yes, I usually have the idea and if it includes using power tools then my husband executes it!

He he he...sometimes our vision is not easily carried out. Looks like he made it sturdy and safe, and THAT is better than perfect and pretty. Once you whitewash the 2x4, it will go away, leaving you with the beautiful, lifestyle-complimenting, husband-accommodating porchglow.

Hi Pat! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and for your sweet comment:) I may try the RIT dye but I'm kind of getting used to the peachy color now!

What a wonderful idea you came up with, it looks fantastic! Your hubby sounds like a keeper:) They don't always understand what the heck we're up to so it's nice when they just roll their eyes and go along with our wild plans:)

Thanks for the very clear tutorial, Pat!
Now I need to find an old canning rack.

It turned out great! Looks so warm and inviting!

Um, I'm not sure Bruce gets my style but he humors me and goes along with my crazy ideas. And that's just as good, right?

I laughed as I thought about whether Steve gets my style. My first thought was no because he shakes his head a lot, but in the end, I know he loves what I have done with "our" home.

Your light fixture is totally fun.

This turned out great, Pat!

My beau and I are still miles apart when it comes to understanding my vision for things, but he's coming around, and sometimes he has some pretty fantastic logical solutions for my creative projects!

Nice job. What fun that is! So is your new background at the top of your blog, and other new styling!! Sorry if you did it ages ago and I haven't been noticing. ;-)

Definitely have to pick your battles! Also, I have found that if I keep my mouth shut, I sometimes like my husband's way of doing something even better! Not always, of course. ;-) My husband does get me, but still frequently can't "see" what I see in "junk". He comes around quickly, though, when he can start actually seeing where I'm going with a project. I am extremely blessed in the husband department! Your fixture is wonderful!

Canned Lights! Love them. My husband sometimes balks at an idea, but he has learned to go with the flow and just do the work.
