Our Anniversary and Our Day out!

Yesterday was our anniversary. The Honey and I have been married 32 years! We’ve had good ones and bad ones—but the fact that we’re still together means something. We’re either truly in love…or crazy!  Our kids sometimes think we’re crazy! ;)

We had no obligations the day was ours!  It was slow paced and wonderful.  Nothing over the top.  We had coffee in the morning and breakfast of bacon, eggs, and biscuit for me.  Coffee and a Bear Claw for Honey.

Afterwards we attending the “ 2nd Annual Wild-flower Festival”  a local event.  I had my camera but didn’t take many pictures while there… I was enjoying the moment.  Right before we left I took some pictures of the old tractors. DSCF7140

We left there and went to a big yard sale – Honey had seen it advertised in the paper—It was a fund raising sale.  I have a funny story to tell you about this.  As we were walking back to the car from the tractors—I was telling Him, I’d like to find a different chair for him;  to go in the living room.  I quickly ran through a list of features for a this chair.

  • Comfy
  • Wingback
  • Reclining (would be nice, I said)
  • Reasonably PRICED
  • Leather (while I’m wishing)

We arrived to the OLD nursing home… OLD…because we have a new one built in town as a replacement! It’s about to become a Women’s Shelter with the help of Volunteers and Lowe’s Heroes…. More on that later.

Anyway—back to the chair. We pulled up and there it was!  The exact chair I was describing.  It had everything I’d just told him I was looking for in a chair, not even a half hour earlier.

(before I cleaned it)

What?!

BLUE, you say?   Minor detail.  Had I known, I was going to get what I wished for ON OUR ANNIVERSARY… I’d have asked for BROWN LEATHER.

OR…!

Well A ton of other things come to mind too.  ;) Has that ever happened to you?  Getting what you wished for …sorta?

We also went to the flea market and had Chinese Buffet later in the afternoon. I’ll share more with you on that later.

‘Til next time, Be blessed!

Patricia

:: The Truth is…

I fret a little.
I worry about things to come …and things that may not.
I cause myself to doubt---
I run ahead.
Sometimes I make a RUSH decision—and the outcome isn’t good.
All I have thought about since I’ve begun to get stronger--- is packing and moving.
Getting the burden of debt off ones shoulders is a huge relief.  I want relief.
Since returning from Arkansas and our trip away--- I can think of nothing else.
With the girls—I am anticipating 2 new grandbabies.  Grandbabies that I may not get to see grow and flourish or take their first steps; up close; like I’ve done with the other 6 kiddos.
It all weighs heavy in my heart.
Finance.
Family.
Faith.
…Not always in that order.

Today I read this scripture… and it SPOKE VOLUMES TO the weightiness of my heart.
I wanted to share it with you.

ERBIE TRAIL verse

Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. ~ Psalm 37: 3-5
For me- just reading it and meditating on these words,  has CULTIVATED FAITHFULNESS.  I feel stronger already!
A RELIEF!  ;)
Have a blessed start to a new week my friend!
‘Til next time, Be Blessed!

I. LOVE. IT.

:: Having another Gogh at Art

Do you ever just see something on line and say... "hey, I want one!"?  I know that could be dangerous.

But, that's just what happened when I saw this chalk drawing at A Cultivated Nest ... I was feeling quite inspired!

So...naturally, I sent an email to Manuela...and she said, "Sure! use my picture."  Thanks Manuela for the use of your picture AND THE INSPIRATION.

Seriously, I'd like a cow painting...
But, hey... this will do!

I took a picture of it...because well, it's a chalk board and next week there will probably be scribbles
or stick figure families
or flowers
or whatever else the Littles draw, while standing on a step stool... practicing writing their A-B-C's and 1-2-3's .

Also, it says, Eat More Chik'n... but you know how I love my chickens.

Corn-Flake

Right now I'm waiting to see who among them notices the drawing. Seriously, sometimes people The Honey, don't notice any changes for days!
Is it like that in your home?
Little changes that go unnoticed?

::The Truth behind Vintage Dishes::

This is what I was working on today (Thursday, 29th August 20.13) when I got the text from my very pregnant daughter.

I started thinking a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to move my everyday dishes...
from behind the closed-door cupboard to this open shelf.  For a few good reasons really.
  • My everyday dishes are vintage. Equals: fresh decor!
  • They are colorful... see above.
  • They match "Corn-flake" !!!  ...again good reason!
  • AND best of all!!! They won't need dusting---once I get them onto this shelf... these dishes won't need dusting except the top shelf (because I use them over and over they'll get washed before they get put back)

But first a couple of things needed to happen. See the picture below? It is my cupboard a year ago.

It is full of jams and jellies and pie fillings ...and a sloppy paint job.  :/

See this next picture?  With the lace trimmed pillow slip ---posing as a dresser scarf slash doily?
It is a cupboard full of jams, jellies, and pie fillings with a sloppy AND INCOMPLETE paint job.

What needed to happen was:

The act of dusting, which you can probably tell by now...I don't like doing; and the touch-up painting.  Check and Check.

Then of course,
  • leave paint brush to dry ---on top of open can of paint,
  • take trip to hospital---(an hour away!)
  • hang-out for observation,
  • ride the elevator UP and DOWN with 4 year old,
  • watch shadow of disappointment settle onto daughter's face, (false alarm)
  • come home.
  • Put dishes on shelf
  • Snap and Edit pictures...

Do things like this happen at your house? Little projects...turn into 2 day projects?
Do you have little things that you know aren't finished...but you take a  year to go back and 'touch up'?
Now with the fresh white on the shelves and the sloppy green and yellow covered with white...all cut-in nicely; It just looks so much better...unless of course, you zoom out and look at the whole picture.
It makes me wonder why I hadn't finished it already.

As you can plainly see I'm not finished yet.
Truth is, tomorrow is another day--- and LORD willing, I'll get it done then! :)

***edited to say:
Daughter is still very pregnant. Baby hasn't come yet. No distress. It was only a false alarm. We're just so anxious and the hospital is a long distance away.

:: In All things -Seeing and Trusting- ::

I don't know about you; but haven't you ever wondered what it must be like to be a photographer or a boom-mike man on National Geographic Television?  I've watched Nature: with David Attenborough  and wondered how hard it must be to watch nature take it's course...as the crocodile leaps from the water and latches onto the Gazelle , thrashing about; and drags it's frail body into the water.

Then we took up homesteading.

:: How Pinterest Has Impacted Our Home this Week::

Not too long ago, I was reading here....

Carol shared a list of creative projects she had pinned on Pinterest that she was feeling compelled to try out now that she had some free time on her hands.
Her list is quite extensive as she is going to do this for 30 days and is well on her way to a great start.

Well... needless to say, I left Art and Sand that evening...feeling quite PIN-spired!

::The Fortress of Solitude ~I have the key~

This post is linked here:

I had this little Key Storage I made...in 2012...can't for the life of me, FIND THE POST ABOUT IT.
but wanted to link it up with Donna's Junky Hang Ups party

Here's the close up... isn't it junky?!
I didn't know how in the world something like this would go over here, hanging on the wall. But, when you put stuff like this on the wall (no MATTER HOW FUNCTIONAL) you leave yourself open
for a lot of different opinions.
Many having to do with 'red-necks'!!!

Here it is today... being used to it's full potential.

So in this case:  I think  Junky Hang Ups is perhaps a
double entendre.  However, it serves it's purpose---Wouldn't you agree?

...and for those of you paying attention to the vintage pencil sharpener in ALL the photos...
  • No. I did NOT label it.
  • Yes. It doubles as an excellent purse and camera bag holder (a.k.a: JUNKY HANG UP)
  • AND OF COURSE!  You get extra points for noticing. :)
  • no extra points for the smarty pants who noticed the missing "B" in plumbing! ZERO POINTS!!!

So teach us to number our days. That we may present to you a heart of wisdom.~ Psalm 90:12

:: Relaxing after the Holiday ::

Today, I spent time cleaning up around the house and putting things back in order from our Thanksgiving dinner

All six kids were home and all but 4 grandkids were here.
The cousins made up for that. I was so glad the weather was nice.
We had a Thanksgiving Picnic... eating outside!
It was lovely.

So anyway today, I caught up on all the wash and hung it all out.
I love hanging my laundry out...our weather is mild enough most of the time to hang it out all year round.

recently got these pins . Though I don't use this type to hang my laundry.

So instead--
I have 3 bundles of them for sale HERE in my shop.
*edited to remind you everything is 20% off right now in my etsy shop! Coupon is in the sidebar and at the bottom of this post!

I also got the kitchen put back in order.

 We have one plate of small cherry tomatoes that are ripening up;
on a platter in the kitchen.

I love the way the sun is hitting the tree outside the window over the sink.
Finally, we have some color in the yard.
We generally have a brown Fall;
Nothing showy...but this year has been a little bit different. I'm not going to complain. I think it is beautiful!

How are you spending your Sunday?
I'm sharing this here: SSS

::Going Green--Step Stool::

Back sometime ago... Angie at Knick of Time Interiors started a THEME FOR THURSDAYS MEME...and one of the earlier ones she did was STEP STOOLS.

She truly inspires me!

I absolutely loved the littlest step stool she had in her line up...she painted it and put stripes on it. While I think it looks great with a fresh coat of paint...my inspiration came not just from her painting it; but from the 'original' color as well.
You'll have to click on the link to see all of her vintage step stools.

So...of course, I used GREEN. I taped it...I had some of the blue painter's tape; but for the life of me, couldn't find it. I'm thinking maybe someone borrowed it ???  and so,  I no longer HAVE ANY.... either way, my stripes bled under this tape.

So no... they're not perfect.
The step stool started out as a curb-shopped stool when my kids were ALL STILL HOME; AND was pretty much chipped, rusty, and paint splattered. Now... it's green...with rather sketchy and somewhat white stripes.

Re-painted the stripes...take 2

I also dipped the feet into the white paint...just for a little different detail. I did repaint the stripes,by hand this time; though darker...still sketchy ...but, it is a step stool.
So, no biggie. It was virtually a free project.

I am however noticing a trend towards GREEN...:)

::This Nameless Room::

I never know what to call this one room in my house. We used to call it the Utility Room...
but it does have our washer and dryer in here.

So...LAUNDRY ROOM would be good. But I don't typically DO laundry in there. I sort it and wash it in there; but most of the laundry handling is done when I carry it outside, hang it up, and fold it (except on cold days) and bring it inside and put it away. I don't really do laundry there.
It also has 4 doors going either in or out of this room.
One goes to the bathroom.
One goes into our bedroom.
One comes from the kitchen.
One goes Outside.

I've been giving it a little bit of attention. It needs it.
It's also a Catch-All room.

I'll show you some junk I put together to help organize this
